Verizon to Update Service for Doddridge County

This is good news for Doddridge County! Maybe I'll be able to get rid of this stupid satellite dish for internet. It is expensive and doesn't work when it's raining either.

Dont hold your breath. Ill believe it when I have it. Fought for 2 years and got nowhere. Verizon employees told me that we wernt on thier schedule for 2.5 years. They made the statement that political pressure was the only means to this end and ALL the locAL AND STATE POLITICANS wern't willing to go this route!

I have dial up internet, I live so far out that nothing else is really available. I remember contacting Verizon years ago about it, and was told they were expanding everyday... i have yet to see it here lol. I have thought about getting Hughes Net... but you have to have a clear view of the southern sky... and all that I have a clear view of is mountains!

The list of DSL they plan for 2009 is a rehash of what they promised last February would be ready in 2008.(2008 saw one addition in Smithburg)

Of the $11 Million plus the 49 extra technicians that they are required to provide WV per the terms of the PSC lawsuit - how much comes to Doddridge? No answers at that meeting - though the question was asked repeatedly.

When I first moved here, there were 7 repairmen in Doddridge - now we have ONE full-time plus part of another guy who is always helping Pennsboro and Salem. We had people who work out of state who couldn't call home for Christmas because it was RAINING in Doddridge!

Commitment time for repair here is a WEEK to TWO WEEKS! And they consistently miss THAT by a couple of days. Average 8 days without being able to call 911?? Not only does this hold us back financially, but it is a health and safety issue.

Verizon made a bundle by providing a needed service in a professional manner. How do we get through to them that the service is still needed and there is still money to be made by providing it properly?

Work with verizon, you must be kidding!? How far do have to go to see trees laying on lines? 4 maybe 5 poles? Somtimes 6 on rare occaision! Once Verizon Employees told me that anyone who could REPAIR Doddridge equipment were either Dead or retired! When related to Verizon AND the Commissioners,Verizon only DEMANDED the emps. names! Then did nothing! VERIZON EMPLOYEES WILL TELL YOU THAT ONLY POLITICAL PRESSURE WILL SOLVE THIS!By the way, all your Reps. have a special line installed by verizon for hi-speed. Your tax dollars at work,lol

look guys everything goes digital in feb. this means they have to be on time or you can really raise some hell. we should actually get a choice between dsl or broadband or if you know how just go wireless....

you won't get a choice for dsl or broadband in the outlying areas of the county. "going digital" has nothing to do with that. It's the satellite and cable tvs going to an all digital signal. It will still be years before we get any high speed internet around here.

that's true, outlying areas may get high speed internet in 15 years if we are lucky.

My home is a little over 100o ft from the closest cable hook up --- we offered to PAY for the line, and lay it ourselves --- Cable turned us down! A wireless card works for High Speed IF you get cell service.....

Wow that is insane, you would think they would jump at the chance to make a little more money.

Cell service? Only if I go up on the hill and get in the cupola of the barn.

If they update the phone lines, won't we be able to get DSL?

I think that it's funny how they call satellite "High Speed". It's faster than dial up, costs 10 times as much but you still can't watch a video on it without waiting for it to buffer every 30 seconds.

We even offered to allow for our neighbors to be serviced off it --- and the STILL said no! We can see the pole that we need to hook up to! They said that it would be too cost prohibitive ----

I can't get cell phone service where I live either, and yes, I have heard that satellite is sometimes worse than dialup depending on the weather.

The Digital in February refers to Broadcast Television switching to ALL digital transmission on the 17th. This is off topic but after that date the only people that will be effected are those using their own set top or roof top antennas for reception. They will need to buy a DTV Converter Box and probably upgrade their antenna system as well. Those that are using TV Cable (Rapid Cable) or either one of the Satellite Service will not be bothered by the change to DTV at all.

Phone service is out tonight in Greenwood, out long run. The phone company says it will be a few days before it can be fixed.

We also don't have cell phone service. I hope nobody has a medical emergency before it gets repaired!

People, this is something this isn't the only area of the county this is happening in --- different times but on again off again service is what I have been hearing about.

Then, there was the cell phone outage in Oct ----

The Public Service Commission is where it needs to be reported to.....

Verizon said the service wouldn't be restored until Monday but it was back on when I got up this morning.

hey doddridge citizen what part of greenwood do you live do you know any of the kelley's down longrun??

I live about 3 miles out long run. I know of them but don't know them personally.
