I remember where I wss and what i was doing when I heard the hews of Elvis' death. It was no less devastating than when I heard that President Kennedy had been shot. I harbor three (mortal) iconic figures in my memory, FDR, JFK and Elvis.

I have been to La Grange to run a local race when I was in graduate school at FSU last year. It was a great visit. I have a friend who went to college there.

I studied Agent Orange in graduate school for environmental health. I found the "Virtual Wall" with the profiles serving as memorials to deceased soldiers. I found one from La Grange, GA who died in 1969. May he rest in peace. He apparently died from burn wounds near An Khe, which had a latitude of about 16.9 and longitude of 107. The war was hell.

The Vietnam War was very tragic. Agent Orange was found to be a cancer-causing, toxic chemical agent. It was a defoliant that had been thought to be harmless. Veterans now get disability benefits for exposure if they have the illnesses recognized by the VA for Agent Orange.
