Somebody really needs to check it out. I heard from a very reliable source that there is a huge tent, lots of tall balloons and many, many people at the site. I live in the area but can't leave work to go find out what's going on.

Indeed, If anyone out there is able to ride by there now and fill us in, we would all be very thankful. It sounds like REALLY good news, but I will still be anxious until I see the "Hiring" sign... By the way, if anyone knows anything about it, how will they handle their application/hiring process. Would they use something like the QuickStart company that WalMart DC 6054 in LaGrange used or what?

Don't send the resume yet... or else it might end up in Mississippi. We need to verify that it's building here first.

I just want to be first in line.....or at least close to the front when the hiring begins. There is no job security any more at WPH. Let's continue to PRAY that West Point is chosen as the location for the new KIA plant!

Just rode by the site. Yes, there is a large tent up on the ridge...can be seen from Webb Road, close to where it intersects with Gabbettville Road. I saw at least 4 port-potties behind the tent. I turned off of Webb Road onto Gabbettville Road and for the next mile or so I saw several large balloons flying 50 to 100 feet off the ground, spaced far apart, obviously marking boundaries or a path. Cows were grazing under the balloons. There were no people or cars in the area.

Apparently the balloons are markers for the helicopters that have been flying around the property today. The only activity i have seen on the ground today is a guy in a City of West Point truck parked by the tent earlier.

I think you can submit a resume online. Also, all of the company incentives are on the website as well. The person who posted the benefits earlier was right on the mark. They even pay your car insurance. Unbelievable!!!!

I'm glad to see others posting. I started with KIND REPLY and READ this. As you can see, I wasn't able to bring Kristie around. She is set in her ways. Apparently the CEO of Kia set her straight. It was funny but we also need to come back respect peoples freedom of speech. I understand her mind set. I walked all over those woods like many people in that area. A part of me will be sad to see it change.

The tent and the balloons are good signs. The tent could be preperation for an anouncement and a general shelter for all the folks out there. I'v have seen tent like that filled with small ballons, then let go after a big announcment cermony.

I would guess they are still testing and geography. Around 2000 acres seems to be well within the land requirement, so the need air view to look at all that, run data, them go look again. The land has to be just right. They can't set cement pit that supports the stamping machine just anywhere. A sink hole under it could cause a big accident. Let's hope the land is a "go"

As for the Lanier's, whatever they said in church is subject to be changed as it spreads and really it their business. I think the best thing to do is to look for thier support and leadership. They have the connections to find out what is going on and make sure everyone is doing thier part to make this a success. Let's just hope they are for it! I believe they would be.

Re: the comments made abou the benefits of Kia. You must understand that the benefits listed on the Kia web-site are for Kia Motor America---which is the sales side of the business. The manufacturing part of it is an entirely different entity--the benefits won't be the same. They are two distinctly different companies. I work at the Hyundai plant--we are separate from Hyundai Motor America. It's all completely different.

What was the word today? Is the deal still on, or are the rumors about the wetlands issues true...have we lost the plant?

Balloons were to give the CEO and idea of where the plant would be when he flew over today as stated by a West Point City Officials at the site. Property values are increasing rapidly in the area. Most property owned by one person and they are not talking. County Commissioner and State Representative will not share info either. Project is still tentative at this time according to city officials. Property up to Sandtown Road has been purchased supposedly. Company will install buffers around any residents left in the area. They are very willing to cooperate with residents wishes.

Daily Horoscope for June 3

Gemini

Do a little lateral thinking today and it will work wonders. Don't feel hidebound because you're supposed to do things in a certain way, because this is a great opportunity to try a different approach for a change. Even so, you may have to play down your unorthodox technique when talking to anyone who sticks rigidly to convention.
