Yes, I always read the front page on line. Not now. I quit subscribing to the Quill years ago as I couldn't afford it so I'm definitely not paying for an online subscription.

It's not worth the subscription to see the publisher's opinions, especially when he writes something while hungover from absinthe. The only thing worth reading in there is to see who got arrested for overdue library books, or see which women had their weekly stalker visit.

How cheap can Frank Martin get. The paper is not worth $60.00 a year to read on line. First I ever heard of paying to read a paper on line. Leave it to WP they never have had much to offer. Lived there a long time and I am glad I left. Just keep your news.

i agree $60 give me a break You can read every other newspapers in Missouri for free online. If Frank needs the dough that bad he might think about putting out a better paper ain't changed since 1968. Same bad families in trouble same power families same old same old.

I prefer reading the Howell County Newspaper based in Willow Springs. They don't scrimp on column or font size. Even though it is only published once a week, that's enough for me. In a town the size of West Plains seems like it's hard to drum up enough real newsworthy stories for a daily paper.

I can give you a couple reasons why not:

1) That is just a stupid idea in the first place
2) Nobody actually DOES anything on this website, they just talk about it.
3) Do you realize how much time, effort, and money goes into running a newspaper. The people over at Daily Quill are merely just trying to bring home the bacon to their own families, and just because it inconveniences some people doesn't mean they are in the wrong. If you guys think the paper is so stupid anyways then what are you complaining about? 60 bucks a month is nothing once you add in all costs:paper, ink, rent for the building they are in, not to mention equipment and paying the employees. Everyone has a computer these days and i'm sure everyone realized that you can read the paper online instead of paying the 60 dollars a year, which just a fun fact, equals approx. 6 cents a day for the paper, which means they are not getting any income, which means they have no money to pay for ink, and paper, and equipment, and employees, etc. And West Plains is a small enough town that it DOES effect the business, so if you guys want to say how much they suck and are stupid and the paper stinks anyways, then ok, fine. Don't pay the 60 dollars. You guys have no problem paying who knows how much money a year for cigarettes, alcohol and who knows what else. This is what is wrong with the world today. There are much bigger things to be worried about than having to pay 6 cents a day for the news that apparently, you guys don't even enjoy reading anyways right?

Its funny, people talk about having never seen a newspaper that charges for its online version, then someone mentions Howell County News, which in addition to forgets about the main part of howell county,(The southern part) it also charges for the majority of its newspaper ONLINE.

Many newspapers charge for their online version.

While the Swill is not the best paper I have ever seen, its better than some, and its basically all we got here.

LOL the Howell County News if you will read it covers any news that it knows about and it does report news from West Plains as well as Willow and Mtn. View. The "main part" of Howell County?- give me a break. The West Plains Squeal don't print news and what articles they do print dont tell the whole truth. They take what someone tells them and twists things around until they like what they say. They are rude to people by trying to get through security lines at car accident scenes to take pics of the blood and gore that dont need to be printed. They say thats their so-called 1st amendment right and it sells newspapers. And for those reasons I do not subscribe to the Quill and I spent maybe a dollar this last year on buying a paper from them.
The Howell County News is very professional, has as least 17 pages of different things for different people. The owner there is not a snob and she treats people like they should be - like people. Yes she put a picture of a house fire on the front page the other day but she did so with permission from the landowner and the fire dept.
The Quill doesnt do diddly squat for covering the county when it comes to sports anymore unless the Zizzers beat either Willow or Mtn. View in something then they will print a full page article acting like its a big deal. Last year the Zizzers got beat by Willow in basketball and all that was in the Quill was a picture with a short caption and that was it. The Howell County News printed the story from both sides of the perspective. And they always do when Willow and Mtn. View play each other in anything. The Quill don't do anything for me, and as long as they have their uppity attitude and unprofessionalism, I will NOT be a subscriber.

Yeah 60 bucks a year is a little much for a paper that is very biased. Just my opinion by the way.

When you go to the library to check out some books that you never intend to return, you can swipe a few Quills to. They are easy to stash in a pocket. The best thing is you will get to see your mug in the frontpage headlines of the very paper you swiped.

Go ahead, click on the link. It isn't $10 a year. And who cares even if it was. I honestly can't believe you guys are complaining about something so petty. Seriously, grow up. Go cry about something more important.

Probably because it's called the "WEST PLAINS" Daily Quill. Why in the world would they write a novel about how we got beat by another towns team? That is the worst arguement I have heard yet. And you obviously don't even read the paper. There is a page, actually it's even called the "Sport's page" hmm...imagine that, and it is dedicated to SPORTS!! weird... The Howell county news printed both willow and West Plains pros and cons, because THEY ARE BOTH IN HOWELL COUNTY! The paper writes about HOWELL COUNTY not a specific town. Honestly people, if you are going to complain about this atleast have a good enough arguement.

I work there. It's $10 a year for an on-line subscription. I'm not complaining about anything "so petty", I'm just trying to set the record straight.
