Today a local merchant found 2 TV sets at West Plains Pawn that belonged to him. A few weeks ago a local man saw an expensive electronic device being auctioned on Ebay that had been stolen out of his garage 4 or 5 weeks earlier. He quickly traced the item being sold back to West Plains Pawn. When confronted, the pawnshop owner angrily denied any knowledge of the item. The man had to call the police for help. The police arrived and retrieved the item for him. This pawn shop needs to be fully investigated! If you've been burglarized recently, check out Ebay. Once you locate an item similar to yours set the "sort by" filter to "distance closest to you." Continue to check Ebay up to 10 weeks or longer after the theft! Good luck!
the grave digger went through something like this before,,got alot of things stolen,,,i lived in a big city at the time,,,very close to the getto,,close enough to feel the breeze of the bullets wizzing by me head,,,so when i wanted me stolen property back,,i did what all white people do to this day,,,go to the black mans garage sale,,,ha haa haaa,,,does the grave digger dislike black people,,nope i love everybody,,,but thats just the way life was back then,,,people steal,,people lie,,people cheat,,,thats why i live by the the grave diggers golden rule,,,if some one wants your crap,,they must of needed worse then you did,,,is this fair,,nope,,but my stress level is gone,,,and the grave digger always remembers the second part of this rule,,we dont live in mayberry usa,,cuz mayberry usa isnt real,,,and we live in the ozarks,,the meth capital in the world,,and with meth comes your crap dissapears,,so do what i did,,,buy a paint ball gun,,take a paint ball,,poke a hole and drain the paint,,then fill with permanent ink,,and mark the theives,,its easyer to find a ink marked person walking around then your tv sets,,,ha haa haaaa,,ps,,please dont anyone tell the police,,this might be illegal to do,,,ha haa haaa,,,but talk about fun,,,

1. The wheels of justice are slow, theives are fast.

2. You attitude affects the out come. If you are stupid and pissed off at the pawn shop your anger is wrongly directed. They have no idea that this stuff is stolen when they take it in. But if your an ass why would they want to work with you.

3. File a police report. They cannot legally tell you anything other wise. Include serial numbers this is the fastest way to find your stuff.

4. A good shop will take the theives to court. They don't like stolen stuff either.

5. The shops lose money on stolen stuff. To get your item back you have to pay what they paid for the item. You don't have to pay for the supplies they used to clean the item. The time they paid the employee for cleaning your item, and listing fees etc..

They know that your out money but it isn't their fault most shops will work with you. Remember be nice to them and they will work for you. But if your smart ass mouth takes over good luck to you because nobody wants to help someone that disrespects them.

Ya.We had a computer stolen.Reported it, almost a year later spotted it behind the counter at the pawn shop.It wasn't for sale or nothing, just laying behind the counter. The pawn shop said we would have to pay what it was pawned for and the courts would adress that fee later and that we would get reimbursed.Guess what? That was a year ago, still no notices from the courts and the guy still has no dates with the judge.Pretty much, the theif gets his money, as does the pawn shop, and you have to pay extra just to get back your stolen property.

You absolutely do NOT have to buy it back that Kenny guy will say you do and if you don't know better like most people you will but by Mo law he can NOT make you pay and he does take stolen merchandise he has several stolen things in his apartment in back of shop. Plenty of the rent to own stores in towns belongings and it states right on it that its property of a rent to own store! The WP police kiss his butt because he donates them guns and things to kiss ass to keep them on his side. Turn him in to tbe ATF he needs shut down.

If you've had something stolen, make a police report before doing anything else. Don't expect much from the pawn shop if you don't have a police report in hand. There are crooked people in every profession, pawnbrokers included. Most pawnbrokers are honest and try to avoid stolen items. Most stolen items in pawn shops come from a victims family/friend/employee with a substance abuse problem. These people are often good liars and fly under our "this doesn't seem right" radar.

Amazing that West Plains Pawn and Hometown Pawn are the only 2 pawn shops operating legally in West Plains. They are the only 2 pawnshops that send daily reports to a national database of merchandise they receive complete with serial numbers. This law has been in effect for years but not enforced, yet these 2 shops have been doing so for years since day 1.

I would plainly say that this thread was started by an outright liar. I have seen the store go way above and beyond to assist local law enforcement to catch thieves.

Also local law enforcement will not go to the store and retrieve your items, that is not the process so again the original person who started this thread is an outright liar!

I agree with disgusted When you get robbed the pawn shops usually have your stuff even if you have went into their place and let them know about people over and over. They do not care it's like they hope and prey the people don't get busted just to get more stuff!!I think they need to crack down alot better.
Actually, the reason Pawn shops cannot give out information on pawned items is because, without a proper police report all customers are covered under the privacy act. Just like if you pawned the same thing but different (i.e. different serial numbers ect...) someone had stolen and went to the store and saw your item and wanted all your information because it looked just like theirs, you would not be happy about this random person off the street getting your info. There are laws in place to protect both sides and if you do not follow the proper avenues to get your stolen property back,. then you will have little to no luck.

That being said, pawn shops do not like getting stolen good because its simply bad for business. Not only does the stolen property get seized by the police and they lose the money they paid for that item, but they also have the police at their shop which is never good for any business.

So some advice, take note of serial numbers, descriptions, pictures, whatever, so when you make that police report, they go in with as much ammo as possible and check it against the National Pawn Databas to find out where and when your item was pawned. With this info they can get video, fingerprints, license numbers and so much more to make a strong case for YOU to get your stuff back.

Less then 1% of pawned items are stolen - FYI

I went to Washington Ave Pawn asking about a couple things i had stolen from my carport. The OWNER bold face lied to me about having my legally purchased item in his store. I asked him specific questions about my item and he denied it all. He simply said he didnt have it. I found the person that stole my stuff and he went and got it from Washington Ave Pawn. Still with the pawn ticket on it!! They cleaned my stuff at least i guess. Its still pretty bad that the owner of the business will do this to his customers.

I just know the two kids running it are worthless business men. Arent you supposed to stay close to your GOOD customers and weed the bad ones out? Just saying

I had a computer and some jewerlry stolen at two different times. We know who stole both but cant prove it yet. Checked pawn shops and every else. Still cant find it all. Cops entered my product number as a serial number into mules. That number matches about 1,000 other computers. The cop that thought he had a hit in los angeles said that it would take about 5 minutes for west plains to get a court order for hp to give the serial number. They wont do it. It really sucks. Been missing for 8 months now and still looking for it.

So your a dirtball pawn broker that obviously knows that stuff is stolen because you've made plenty of cash over the years with the thieves and have developed relationships with them. Im sure when you have to give back an iten for a loss you pad your records to show you've paid more than you did... Your not fooling anyone.

People, If its your stuff and you can proove it then you can simply examine the item and if its truly yours then walk out with it. How can you get in trouble for having your own stuff. The pawn broker may not like it but thats his problem after that. You cant get in trouble for taking what is yours. Thats like someone finding the keys to your vehicle and it automatically is theirs now... That is not how it works. Its pointless to go to the poliece because they think they dont have time to deal with those problems. If they would actually do their job then they would be able to nail the crack heads stealing our products when they check the stores. I have had horrible service with WASHINGTON AVE PAWN. The punk kids there need their asses beat. I would love to see that place belly up. Its one thing to run a honest place of buisness but washington ave is a horrible place to take your stuff.

I had three items taken from my garage about 3 months ago. I filed a police report and checked with every pawn shop in the area including W.P. Pawn. I actually called them 3 times and went there in person twice asking for the specific items that were stolen. They said, "nope, haven't had anything like that turned in here." Found them on ebay, yep, traced them to their store and the police then got them back for me. They lied to me about them being there. How convenient! When you know they're stolen just keep them in the back room and use ebay. Sorry Speeluunjuur but there's no ignorance on their part!
By yourself a balaclava, leather gloves, cheap running shoes, and a big back pack. Determine your local LEO response time. Find 2 easy, concealed entry/exit points to the pawn shop. Grow a pair and reacquire your shit along with whatever else looks appealing.

Hint: all shops have cctv and alarms. Cover all skin and be gone long before the cops show up (predetermined response time). You will have a minimum of 3 minutes. Also, burn all clothing ASAP, and cache acquired items for a few months.
