I am furious to find out that our school here in West Plains has spent $650,000 on turf for the stuping football field for a team that never even wins but doesn't have enough psychology books so that the students can take them home to study! What is wrong with these people? They put a field before basics like books? This school obviously does not have the students best interests at heart unless you are a football player. How ignorant!

Back in the day, they would have a group of involved parents who would do fundraising in any way possible, and if their sports team couldn't afford it, the boosters would try to make up the difference to make sure they could meet the goal and get the proper supplies, equipment, etc. Do they still do that around here? If so, how much money was raised?

Many parents live vicariously through their childrens sports. Few live through their childrens serious classes.

Last year was my first year here and this mom who had twin girls on the cheer team acted as tho it was all about her kids. We would set and watch her instead of the game. This women even got on to other kids. Yelling walking down to the cheer team telling them how to do this and that. I wanted to let her know she had her day to be a teen. Let the kids enjoy the day. Not about you momma! Never saw people act like this!

I don't care one way or the other about the stupid turf but I agree with you about the books. My son is in 7th grade and all textbooks are left in the class to be used by the next class period. The only textbook he has ever been issued and allowed to take home is math books. How are kids supposed to study or finish homework without the textbook?

For everyones information (if you bother to ask you would know) the field was paid for by donations from local buinesses and no money from our taxes was used. The money that the school used for upkeep on the field is going to good use for other things like updating the FFA building, which is in desperate need of repaires. What kind of message do you think you give our kids when every other team in the conferance they play in has turf. Are our kids not worth as much as kids in other areas? My kids have gotten a great education from West Plains High School. The teaching of children should be done at home and then reinforced at school. nuff said....

Do you idiots even realize the revenue that football brings in? Plus having a great program will make people want their children to attend WP thereby increasing revenue garnered through property taxes. Sports aren't everything, but they are a highly underrated part of a well-rounded education. They also provide parents and the community a quick feedback into what kind of leadership their children are being influenced by.

What losers when a team never wins a game or let along a trophy, you shouldn't ditect that statment to the football program, the track and band programs for sure but not the football program. And there is more for a family to think about buying in west plains for the taxes then their kid playing football, like maybe jobs, better shopping, etc. Now to call everyone an idiot was calling yourself one first.
