After taking my cat to 3 different vets, I finally discovered he had pancreatic cancer. By the time I got him to the third vet, it was too late. He died an hour later. Has any one on this forum had their cat/ dog die from any kind of cancer after using Hartz ? I had an autopsy done on my cat to find out - exactly -what killed him. Did anyone else have proof that their pet died from pancreatic cancer, or any other kind of cancer ? If so, we would then have a case against Hartz, but without a history of cancer from this product, there's nothing we can do. For years tobacco companies lied about cigarettes causing cancer. Hartz, is just another example of a multi-billion dollar industry that is more interested in making money, than in protecting the public.

Is there a safe alternative to the Hartz product?

Go Blue wrote: Is there a safe alternative to the Hartz product? I believe there is. As I wrote in a previous post, I found a product from "Dancing Paws" called "Flea Free". It is an herbal formula that I have used since spring and seem to be getting very good results with it. You spray it on from the base of the neck to the base of the tail (in the same area you apply the drops), but you need to put this on about every 2 to 3 weeks. I also reapply it if my dog has been out in the rain and has gotten soaked. It smells nice and my little dog doesn't seem to mind it at all. He HATED the Hartz product and also got bumps all over so I quit using it and will never use it again. His bumps did eventually go away. I bought mine online from Vitacost but you may find the Flea Free in health food shops or pet stores, I don't know. There are two different products, one for dogs and one for cats. My cats don't go outside so they don't have a flea problem so I haven't tried the cat product. My dog lives outside and has a huge amount of hair with an undercoat (a mixed stray that was dropped on us 9 years ago but we love him dearly), and it has always been hard to control fleas and ticks on him up until this spring when I started using the Dancing Paws product. I am very pleased with how well it works and my dog seems to be too, not all the usual scratching.

OMG I have bought the flea drops b4 for my cat. She to foamed at the mouth and I thought she got into something. She threw up and no-longer was faoming. A few days later I noticed she was losing het fur AND had bumbs all over her. The vet gave her a shot and things cleared up. But the problem is I JUST used the flea dip on our 18week old kittens. I washed it all off w/dawn after reading this bit I am very scared now. Hope NO ONE EVER uses there products again. THANK YOU for everyone who shared there story. It was a hug help. Hope everyones babies are ok

I know, many don't have access, but fleas hate saltwater....we take our dogs to the beach, and they chase the ball into the ocean.....and it kills the fleas....

Thank you for that info. I will try adding salt to the water the next time I give my dog a bath. I do add salt to my own bath water occasionally. On that note, I use to live in Florida about 3 miles from the ocean and I never had sinus problems. I moved to KY and started having really bad sinus problems. I was told that the reason I never had sinus problems in Florida was because of the salt air from the ocean. Then I got a salt lamp and no more sinus problems. It actually helps everyone in the family. Just thought that this might help someone else. You can find them for less than $50 and they are said to last a lifetime. You just need to replace the little nightlight bulb that heats up the salt whenever it burns out.

I have found some things that will help help with the flea problem. I wish I had known this when I lived in Florida because I spent thousands at a vet's office in Lake Worth and still had a flea problem.
This works and is non-toxic to a dog or cat. Get raw coconut oil from your health food store or over the Internet and once a week massage it into your animal's skin along the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Fleas don't like coconut oil and it is very healing. This will even get rid of mange.
Apple Cider Vinegar is another thing that will work for fleas or mange. This should be the raw unfiltered from the health food store, there really is a difference. Just spray this on the animal's skin or if they don't like to be sprayed then just sponge it on them. If the skin is broken then mix it with an equal amount of water so that it won't sting.
Neem oil will get rid of fleas in the yard and is non-toxic. I use a garden spray from Wal-Mart that is mostly neem oil. If you find pure neem oil, you will need to add a little liquid soap so that it will mix with water so you can spray it. I use one of those pressurized garden pump sprayers.
You can do a search on the Internet under"coconut oil fleas mange" and "apple cider vinegar fleas mange" and "neem oil fleas ticks" and you should find all the information you need. I have tried these meathods and found they do indeed work.
