FHP Trooper Killed In West Palm Beach Crash

West Palm Beach police are investigating a fatal accident which claimed the life of an off-duty Florida Highway Patrol trooper. They said alcohol may have played a role in the accident.

Police said trooper Elijah Jones Jr., 37, and a female driver were in a Mercedes that missed a turn from Jog Road onto Roebuck Road and then flipped onto its roof Saturday at 3 a.m.

Police said Jones died on the scene and the driver was taken to Saint Mary's Medical Center. She is listed in serious condition.

Elijah, I remember you from high school as a funny in wood working and gym class. I found out Sunday morning and couldn't believe what I was hearing. Travis Neloms phoned me Sunday morning and it tore us up because of the memories. Travis told me a little about your childhood playing marrbles as a youngster. Man how far we all have from a little town (T-Town) Tifton, Ga.
D-Beck as he was known in Tifton will be missed. I read up on his life as a patrolman and he did alot for his community and the state of FL. I'm married into NYPD family and I know how they grieve when an officer is taken from them. I let some of the officers here in New York know that a brother has fallen. Prayers are going out threw the police community.

To my cousin who was a very funny guy and such a gentlemen. I knew that you would do great things in your life. I was shock to hear the news on early Saturday morning. We went to high school together and it had been a very long time since we saw each other. I left Tifton, Ga 1991 and married a Army soldier(1Lt). I pray for his wife, two kids, Elijah's mom, brother and sister. God bless us all!

I never met Elijah(d beck as "HORSE" would call him), but when I was with Mike, we talked to him on a regular. I feel as though I have known him all my life. Kai know that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. I was born and raised in the church and haven't been in a long while, but in my times of attending church as a child all I can say is look to the lord from whence cometh your strength. lean on the lord in your time of sorrow. Peace be with you lijah. Kai,I've never met you but have seen pictures of your adorable children. Stay strong for them and keep your hands in GODS unchanging hands! RIP ELIJAH RIP!

I always knew that there was something special about lijah. I recently found out of my brother in law enforcement and as a member of T5T lost. The year I played for Savannah State, was a special year because I had a chance to play with one of the greatest person's to play the game. An upright man and teammate he was and from the responses that I've read, he continued to be the same person off the field that he was on the field.
God had an opening in his kingdom and your resume was the perfect fit. Im sure you will continue to patrol the streets of heaven as you did here on earth.
To your family, God Bless.
