What a whiner! He simply violated a company policy, and lost his job. Home Depot has the right to establish its dress code, and this wimp has the right not to work there if he's unwilling to adhere to it. He's just another pissant.

Home Depot isn't a church, no more than it is a mosque or a synagogue. It's a place of business (although it could be argued so are churches, etc. only they conduct business on a tax-free basis). You are 100% correct. People working at a business do so within the rules and confines of that business. However, I wonder if they would have fired a Muslim, because of the threat of possible violence as a result, as well as America's hysteria over "diversity."

I have a dollar bill in my possession from 1935, and nowhere what so ever are the words "in god we trust". Ad it's the same for all U.S. currency before 1935.

I on the other hand will boycott Home Depot. They don't need my dollars, credit card or debit card, period!

The young man should have NOT been fired. I hope someone who appreciates his 'morals' hires him!

From what I read; he wore the button for over a year. But; the sad reality is all the Greedy Corporations are so worried of offending or upsetting some left or right wing cry baby that they have banned pretty much ALL forms of expression. Employees are expected to look the same with no religious, humorous, etc. symbols of any sort visible. I'm surprised they still allow married people to wear their wedding rings! After all, they may upset all the single people. PC has gotten to be absolutely idiotic. What happened to maturity and common sense? My non Christian friends still wish me Merry Christmas as I do them. Believe as you want but; use some rationality when in comes to differing views. Peace to all.

Totally agree with you. By what I saw on TV it was a small button that people probably did not even pay attention to. Home Depot brought it to everyones attention by making a huge issue of it. By not wanting to offend the few (non christians), they are offending the majority. I, for one, will not shop at Home Depot anymore. I am certain that non-christian customers did not complain about it. I find my non christian friends to be very tolerant of others beliefs. It was the company that brought it to the forefront of our minds. I am curious to see how this plays out.

geesh, what is it with americans and this notion that if we make any move against muslims they're gonna erupt in violence? its a crock of nonense that the fear-mongers on the Right love to spew.

show us the stats that a muslim fired over XY went postal?

you cant.

this nation is killing muslims in the thousands and so far there has been no average muslim on the street going postal.

get a grip on your prejudice.

what happened to going into a place of business and doing just that? doing business. why must we suffer the opinions of every f'n person we encounter? who said personal expression must be part of the tolerance codes in the workplace?

my work-crews are expected to dress a certain way, period. I provide them shirts, jackets, and I expect clean pants and washed faces, hair, etc...if they come without their shirt I send them home. period. they show up looking like they just got dragged thru the bushes after spending the night out partying, home they go. if I show up on a work-site and one has removed a shirt, etc - they go home. I dont care if its 120 degrees out.

Im not providing a platform for personal expression. that they can do on their own time.

many of us complain about the lack of good customer service these days, and part of that has come from the relaxing of dress codes and behavior codes, period. work is not the place to express ones personal proclivities.

And we can decide wether or not we want to do business with gestapo tactics like yours. Same with Home Depot. If they harass Christians in the work place over a little button because of one manager with a mentality like yours then we can go elsewhere. Frankly, society is getting sickof your attitude and we will see changes next election.

get over yourself, I was attacking a point one poster brought up. not this article...

gestapo...lol. nice try there...hardly a good comparison and you blame me for herrings...youre so full of them you stink like low-tide.

youre just a jerk. you can shop in the local dump for all I care, I was addressing the notion of expressing oneself in the workplace. can you see the difference?

next election? yeah sure this should be good to see all the racism, and prejudices come to the surface in the GOP and those who go that way. cant wait for you all to vote for scare tactics, and pandering to cliches and liberal labelings...should be great.

"That's not our place to say, which is exactly why we have a blanket policy, which is long-standing and well-communicated to our associates, that only company-provided pins and badges can be worn on our aprons."

"Because it's a private business, not one that's owned and operated by the government, it doesn't have to operate under the free speech provisions of the First Amendment,"

one would think the religious right and GOP'ers would like this...its a truly capitilistic move. after all thats what they truly believe in...the almight dollar and corporate greed and control.

free-markets at work...

HD may have the right to fire this guy.....BUT......it surely does show that the management is:(1) scared to death of lawsuits (2)unwillingly to stand up for God (3) mgt. is trying not get fired themselves by someone higher up.

Light Sensitive said that we are killing thousands of muslims. Please tell me where this is happening.

Also, Light Sensitive, you said that you expect your employees to maintain a good and decent dress code, which is good. You did say that you didn't want anyone to take their shirt off even if it was 120 degrees. I agree with that as well. Don't want the guy to get skin cancer. However, my question is why in the world are you asking the guy to work when it IS 120 degrees outside?????

God doesn't need a company to stand up for him. That's the great part about omnipotence.
