Beginning today, Palm Beach County is charging Westgate Tabernacle Church with a new building code violation for having a tent on its property where homeless people sleep.

joy its so much better to have them loitering in the streets begging for change out side the store and at intersections. great job pbc bunch of I.D.I.O.T.S. make it more difficult for somebody trying to help a problem you refuse to deal with! who voted these M.O.R.O.N.S. into office

Whatever happen to seperation of church and state?

The good people on the island will pick up the bill.

Frankel has over 100 bigger problems to look at instead of a homeless tent.

Like crime, establishing job programs, high taxes, the budet, city hall corruption, police corruption, discrimination in the fire department, high unemployment, road repairs, a downtown looking like a ghost town, and the terrible dancing she did a few months ago at charity contest.

Frankel is not #1. More like a #2 in my book.

The state should fine palm beach county $10,000.00 a day for not enforcing licensing and allowing illegal aliens to work for cash within their county on 90% of construction sites.

We like to bully people around because we can.Even the feds can't crack us.We can push anybody around we want,we're special people who came from coward county after we wrecked that place.ALL OF PALM BEACH COUNTY SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR FRAUD,KICKBACKS,PAYOFFS, BULLIES and LIARS.The feds would have a field day.

Is anybody bothered by the fact that one city takes a stand against the housing of HOMELESS people while another city promotes the subsidized housing of unemployed people who play at their hobbies?

Is anybody bothered by the fact that one city hassles this church that gives love to our legal HOMELESS while other cities give sanctuary to illegal aliens and criminals?

And, yes, what happened to the separation of church and state? Leave these people alone? What is the city attempting to accomplish?

"We are looking to enforce the codes and make sure what facilities are being provided are safe and in our opinion, allowing people to sleep in a tent in this fashion is not a safe thing to do.

THE TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE VIEWS OF THE PALM BEACH CREW MUST BE THAT EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO LIVE ON THE ISLAND PROPER, OR GO TO BROWARD.

I AS A FORMER DISABLED SOLDIER, AND A CURRENT TAX PAYER AM INSULTED AND OFFENDED THAT YOUR CITY HAS ACTED SO STUPIDLY TO SAY THE WAY I LIVED IN A WAR ZONE IS NOT FIT FOR THE HOMELESS.

2008 Florida Statutes

The LORD brings charges against all the inhabitants of the land & Palm Beach County.

760.05 Functions of the commission.--
The commission shall promote and encourage fair treatment and equal opportunity for all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap, or marital status and mutual understanding and respect among all members of all economic, social, racial, religious, and ethnic groups; and shall endeavor to eliminate discrimination against, and antagonism between, religious, racial, and ethnic groups and their members.

760.08 Discrimination in places of public accommodation.--All persons shall be entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, and accommodations of any place of public accommodation, as defined in this chapter, without discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color, national origin, sex, handicap, familial status, or religion.

761.02 Definitions.--As used in this act:
(1) "Government" or "state" includes any branch, department, agency, instrumentality, or official or other person acting under color of law of the state, a county, special district, municipality, or any other subdivision of the state.
(2) "Demonstrates" means to meet the burden of going forward with the evidence and of persuasion.
(3) "Exercise of religion" means an act or refusal to act that is substantially motivated by a religious belief, whether or not the religious exercise is compulsory or central to a larger system of religious belief.
History.--s. 2, ch. 98-412.

761.03 Free exercise of religion protected.--
(1) The government shall not substantially burden a person's exercise of religion, even if the burden results from a rule of general applicability, except that government may substantially burden a person's exercise of religion only if it demonstrates that application of the burden to the person:
(a) Is in furtherance of a compelling governmental interest; and
(b) Is the least restrictive means of furthering that compelling governmental interest.
(2) A person whose religious exercise has been burdened in violation of this section may assert that violation as a claim or defense in a judicial proceeding and obtain appropriate relief.
History.--s. 3, ch. 98-412.

760.07 Remedies for unlawful discrimination.--Any violation of any Florida statute making unlawful discrimination because of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, handicap, or marital status in the areas of education, employment, housing, or public accommodations gives rise to a cause of action for all relief and damages described in s. 760.11(5), unless greater damages are expressly provided for. If the statute prohibiting unlawful discrimination provides an administrative remedy, the action for equitable relief and damages provided for in this section may be initiated only after the plaintiff has exhausted his or her administrative remedy. The term "public accommodations" does not include lodge halls or other similar facilities of private organizations which are made available for public use occasionally or periodically. The right to trial by jury is preserved in any case in which the plaintiff is seeking actual or punitive damages.

If the county doesn't want this small church to help people, they should step up to the plate.

Amazing how illegals can come here get free medical, free education for their children , send billions out of the country and we can't help give people a safe place to sleep at night !!

Get with it, this is UNINCORPORATED PALM BEACH COUNTY, NOT THE CITY OF W.P.B.... dosen't diminish what i think of Frankel either, but not her district.

It is not a matter of safety, it is a matter of the rights of a religious organization to pursue ministry in a vital way. This ministry is responding to a call to fill a need in the community. This is protected under the constitution. The people of Westgate are providing a blessing to Palm Beach county, the county should say thank you and be greatful.

Rules and law don't apply down here in South Florida. They are just a rough guide line that no one abides to. I am from the North and have never seen such lack for the law as here in South Florida.

For once the church is doing what they are there to do and not necessarily molesting kids and stealing money to make real estate investments. I wouldn't want all of those bums in my neighborhood, but it's good to see that they are doing something.

Now go get a permit, sell off the expensive cars and build a facility with all of those tax-free dollars...

If the tent crashed killing everyone inside, the relatives would be suing Palm Beach County. This is not a freedom of religion issue in spite of those who would try to make it such.
