It doesn't. i'm looking at it with an intelligent mind. MTV doesn't necessarily feature the young country artists do they? MTV doesn't do anything organically ever nor do they show videos. Hence, my contention that it was staged. just like evrythg they do. they know their demographics. dopey young, impressionable kids. so they see their star (kanye) jump on stage with this country singer whom they're not familair with and the next day, they start checking her out, downloading her music (you have to pay for that in some places ya know) and buying her cds. other older dopes see this on the news, are boaderline country fans who may or may not have heard her and check her out, download her music (you have to pay for that in some places ya know) and buy her cds. this is first day of music business marketing 101. it's not rocket science or even worth considering otherwise.
and jimmy, if you can tell me the last time mtv did soething organic and make it relevant to your point, i'll bow.

just a lil tidbit. when they shot to beyonce in the audience when kanye did this, she was wearing a bright red dress. when taylor swift came on later to do something on stage, she changed into a bright red ress. same color. ahhh you're right. a coincidence. her other dress that she was wearing wasn't nice enough.

All well and good, my point is with Roger. She was a HUGE star before the VMA stunt and her career did not "benefit" from Kanye West's idiocy. Roger's point has been that a) Swift benefitted from West's racist BS. b) she was not a big star before the incident. Neither is true, but Roger will NEVER admit that. Just because some people have never heard of West or Swift doesn't mean they're not stars. You don't headline at MSG without just a tad of celebrity.....

Al Kahalik wrote: <quoted text> , but you can't say that the Kanye incident didn't put her on a broader map. Yes I can say that and I will. No one who listens to West was listening to her before the incident and NO ONE who listens to West is listening to her now. No one who saw the incident who didn't know her is suddenly going to buy her records because of some idiocy on an awards show. you and Roger give far too much credibility to MTV and far too much stock in anyone caring about this besides the three of us.

roger43 wrote: <quoted text> jimmy im gonna say it again. she woulda been the musical guest. not the host. hmmmm what did she parody while hosting the show? her music? her headlining MSG? or was it all her gossip news??? should i make a list of music performers who have only been the musical guest and NOT the host? She's 19 and she's headlining MSG. She would have been the HOST whether the stunt with West happened or not. She was a HUGE star before the incident. As I said Millions of Americans watch that Idol crap and bought her records. The stunt may have sold her a few dozen more cd's but there's simply NO WAY it had any significant impact on her stardom. She's not headlining MSG because of Kanye West.

roger43 wrote: <quoted text> few things you're missing here lunchlady. after each "incident" kanyes cd sales went up. there's a 7 second delay on TV (i know this is news to some folks). why didn't MTV cut away if it wasn't planned. when was the last time MTV did anything organically??? Did you see the show? Delay or not, the producers panicked and cut to the band and changed the camera to one far back. If he would have started his rant with "effing Beyonce", they would have hit the dump button. Kanye may have planned doing it, but the little white girl was not in on the plan.

Jimmy why are you stuck on this one point but you refuse to look at my contention? so what, she's headlining MSG. i don't think you read the posts throughly. what did she do AS host of SNL? Did she parody her country music fame and her headlining MSG at the age of 19 or did she parody herself and her in the gossip pages. ok folks, we've seen it here. taylor swift record sales had remained flat since the VMA's. please don't get into a pissing match with me about what flat means Jimmy. you know exactly what i mean

It wasn't Ghandi who took the stage. it was Kanye!!!

The whole thing was handled like crap, Kanye was done in a matter of seconds and the kid was starting to finish her acceptance speech and they cut from one thing to another, started the music and pulled back, total panic moves. The planned stuff they zoom in on, and don't cut away. And since it was another artist, and not a stranger jumping on stage, and he wasn't cursing or whipping his dick out, hitting the dump button wasn't necessary. The dump button is to avoid fines for FCC violations, not to avoid uncomfortable moments. Plus it was on cable tv, not broadcast, more latitude. So really Roger, I don't believe this was planned by the show and all involved. Really.

Forget it Rog. you're a one trick pony. You say you don't care about MSG but it's a reality, you don't headline the world's most famous arena by being a borderline country star. You go on beating your dead horse and I'll go on beating mine. Staged or NOT Swift did not need West to boost her career, no matter how many ways you try to spin it, simply because YOU didn't know her doesn't mean a damn thing. She was a star before the VMA's and she will be long after West is rotting in prison or dead. move on dude it's just not that important.

She's not just a COUNTRY star Rog, she was a FINALIST on AMERICAN IDOL, you might have heard of that show right? the one tens of millions of people watch every year and EVERY kid under the age of 19 knows in VIVID detail? Woohoo so Roger can point out that MTV stages stunts whoopee this stunt had NOTHING to do with Swift's career, and everything to do with West's....

Ummm, you're probably thinking about Carrie Underwood or Kelly Pickler. Taylor Swift was never on American Idol as a contestant. However, I do think she performed as a guest once.

However, I do think she performed as a guest once. Right you are. I stand corrected. I was certainly thinking of Carrie Underwood with the AI reference, and was most certainly wrong. Regardless, When someone sells out MSG in ONE MINUTE then she doesn't need Kanye West to boost her career. On February 6, 2009, tickets went on sale for the May 22 date at Los Angeles’ Staples Center and sold out in two minutes. Tickets for several dates and venues, including Madison Square Garden, went on sale the following week and sold out in one minute. http://tristatehomepage.com/content/fulltext/...
