My power bill from duke power went from 150.00 roughly to 295.00. Our highest power bill of last year was 160.00 and was in July. I called Duke power and they said it must be my problem. They gave me the same song and dance as everyone else. I think they needed the money to buy Progress Energy!!!!!!

Our Duke power bill Marion went from $291.90 for on the bill dated 12/2/10 (30 days) to $641.08 on our billed dated 1/5/11 (34 days). Sure, it's been cold.... but not TWICE as cold! Something's not right here....

I agree it was cold last month but not that cold that the power bills jump that high. Mine was $140.00 in Nov. and got my bill for Dec. and it jumped to $262.00. I didn't even have a Christmas tree up or any other Christmas lights up. They will pay for what they are doing.

I just opened our powerbill and it was $962.25, an increase of $527.38 from last month! I could not believe my eyes and was speechless. When I called Duke Energy of course their excuse was the cold snap! We used 2 kilowatts more than the previous month! What is up with the power company? It sucks that they have a monopoly on us. We are not in the service area of REI so we can't switch. Duke energy has us where they want us; bent over right in front of them where they can easily stick it to us!

Why is it that Duke can Justify these heafty bills in this economy. Duke uses our lake and takes all our money but what are they contributing to our comunity besides leaving people cold, hungry, and broke. Organizations who help with energy assistance run out of funds in a day. It seems unfair to be forced to support this company.

I know someone that has a house on the lake he has lived in florida for two years only leaves power on so pipes wont bust his power bill over 600. and noone lives there ,I bet if someone shut the whole thing down turn off breakers that the power bill would still be high..

If you want to know if Duke Energy is cheating you, just go out every day and read your own meter. It's no secret how much Duke Energy charges per kilowatt hour, so take the number of kW hours you use per day and multiply by the the charge. If the amount is off, which it won't be, then you bring it up with Duke. If you actually are using that much energy, then they aren't cheating you. How Goddamned hard can that be? Jesus Christ, you people are dumbfucks!

I also have to wonder about this... My power bill has never been as high as last month. This time last year it was less that 1/2 what this one was. They got 200% more out of me for december 2010 than they did december 2011. We even left and went to SC and stayed out of the house. Even cut the heat way down so it would be just warm enough but not our normal warm. I am tired of being screwed by Duke Energy!
