Some of you may want to ponder the profound cry and declaration of Benjamin Franklin as the nation was hanging in the balance much like today! The Constitutional Convention had been meeting for five weeks, and had hit a perilous deadlock. The large states were insisting that congressional representation be based on population; the smaller states wanted a one-state-one-vote rule. The entire effort to create a stronger union was in jeopardy. Eighty-one-year-old Benjamin Franklin, quiet during most of the deliberations, then addressed the group. According to James Madison's notes, here is what happened next. Mr. President The small progress we have made after 4 or five weeks close attendance & continual reasonings with each other-our different sentiments on almost every question, several of the last producing as many noes as ays, is methinks a melancholy proof of the imperfection of the Human Understanding. We indeed seem to feel our own want of political wisdom, since we have been running about in search of it. We have gone back to ancient history for models of Government, and examined the different forms of those Republics which having been formed with the seeds of their own dissolution now no longer exist. And we have viewed Modern States all round Europe, but find none of their Constitutions suitable to our circumstances. In this situation of this Assembly, groping as it were in the dark to find political truth, and scarce able to distinguish it when presented to us, how has it happened, Sir, that we have not hitherto once thought of humbly applying to the Father of lights to illuminate our understandings? In the beginning of the Contest with G. Britain, when we were sensible of danger we had daily prayer in this room for the divine protection.- Our prayers, Sir, were heard, & they were graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have observed frequent instances of a superintending providence in our favor. I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth- that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? To that kind providence we owe this happy opportunity of consulting in peace on the means of establishing our future national felicity. And have we now forgotten that powerful friend? or do we imagine that we no longer need his assistance? I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth- that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings, that "except the Lord build the House they labour in vain that build it." I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better, than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down to future ages. And what is worse, mankind may hereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest. I therefore beg leave to move-that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessings on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the Clergy of this City be requested to officiate in that Service-

Silly Voice: What does the posting, by you, of the long-winded dictation, by Ben Franklin, asking that a prayer precede the Constitutional Convention have anything to do with the useless poll you created? In any case, Ben's motion for prayer was not voted upon. http://www.constitution.org/primarysources/fr...

The bottom line of atheism or materialism is that they believe there is no throne; there is no seat of authority or power all the universe must answer to. The bottom line of humanism is that there is a throne - but man sits upon it. But the Bible makes it clear that there is a throne in heaven, and no fallen man sits on the throne, but the Lord God is enthroned in heaven. Of all the things listed the only single thing listed that could single handily bring the USA to a total collapse would be a totally Godless society! But atheism on the other hand could and would be the catalyst to cause that to happen! Even the homosexual agenda as corrupt as it is lacks any and all ability to totally collapse the USA because, some do believe in God which would make it impossible for God to allow the USA to totally collapse! Remember Sodom and Gomorrah was a small city not a nation of people! The homosexual agenda clearly has a devastating negative effect upon a nation and its people but, not enough to totally collapse it! Atheist however do, atheist could cause the total collapse of the USA if everyone followed their ideology, God would have no choice but to turn his back upon the USA! There are records in scripture where nations collapsed because of atheism, isn't that remarkable to understand that great truth? All the categories I listed are devastating in and of themselves concerning the negative consequences they each carry! but when combined they are just so treacherous and dangerous for the well being of the USA!

The poll did not mention our ever increasing National Debt + the unfunded mandates like SS & MC. Whether the debt or the moral decline is more important is a toss up. Somehow, I belive they are intertwined.

You would have to be a believer to understand the post! How disadvantaged you atheist really are, if you only knew! But Jesus did say that if the blind lead the blind they both fall into the ditch! Ohhh, How long will you and Obama stay in the ditch?

FleetGhost wrote: Fleet! I believe most everyone knows that "SS has been borrowed from heavily." What is not generally admitted is that we elected people that authorized the borrowing from SS heavily. Once again, this is what kind of problems occur when we unconstitutionally turn our business over to the Federal Government.
