The new zones seem fair and balanced for all. I'm happy and so are my kids. But, I'm sure the posts about how "traumatic" this is are not far off. Right Rich????

Feedback has been positive. Closing schools suck but got to make best of it. Now kids going to school closer to their house so that's a real plus.

I think the haters are in therepy or medicated because they are pretty quiet LOL. It will all fall into place, the kids will move on but some of these parents are the ones that are traumatized.

The redistricting was done as fair as possible. I give them great credit for that. Children will be going to the school closest to their home, again a plus. My only problem with the BOE decision is the closings were not necessary and I believe that all the schools will be overcrowded very shortly. We have lost our excellent teacher to student ratio. Many children were absolutely in tears over loosing their friends. Many will look back at this as one of their most difficult years if adjustment in school. And lastly with the State increasing funding twice, the repeal of the MTA payroll tax for schools, the BOE exempting the HS and MS from almost all of the cuts, we could have saved both schools and prevented this mistake. If the Realtor are wrong and the enroll does not increase its a tight squeeze. If the Realtors are correct and we are going to see an increase in enrollment, closing these 2 schools will be a total nightmare for the district. Just my opinion. See you May 15.

Fair and balanced for all would have been to keep everyone between Sunrise and the railroad tracks together in Oquenock. Since they don't all fit (surprise, surprise)Westbrook is being split three ways, with one section changing not only elementary school but middle school as well. Fair and balanced on the south side, not on the north side.

I am willing to bet that you are one of those parents who stand around at the after school sports activities, haunting just outside the gate, or maybe even cocky enough to stand right out in the open, as the practice is going on, to make sure that your little prodigy is being played enough or treated fairly because it's that selfish attitude I detect, which smells awfully familiar, as though there are no issues that are so important that they can't be worked out, until, and that's a big until, it's your little prodigy that's being effected.

You couldnt be more wrong if you tried but I bet you are the parent who parks their car and takes little Johnny & Susie by the hand and walks them the 10ft to the door of the school annoying and blocking the other parents who are also dropping their kids off. I dont have to bet I know! I got news for you, my kids are very well adjusted,

YOU being one of the top complainers by the way. The feedback sucks because the process sucked. Posting on Topix or Patch that everyone in WI is happy with the redistricting isn't fooling anyone. No one's happy with what has gone on in WI this year and you can't brainwash them to believe that everything's wonderful when it's not. WIers ar more intelligent than you give them credit for being.

Speaking of WI being bigger. Anyone at the fundraiser this weekend? There was way more than a handful of people there for sure.

I was with a group of about 13 parents yesterday (none of them even knew about Topix BTW). It was a mixture of Bayview, Oq & WB. All were happy and thought it was the right decision that needed to be done and some even thought it should have been done long ago. One said her daughter was very upset at first but as she explained to her who she would know she calmed down. So in my experience yes it has been positve feedback.

The true test of whether the West Islip community feels that the right decisions were made for ALL our children even the ES children will come May 15. See you all then.

Yes the district looks more balanced on the nice colorful map unless of course your 1 of the families in the area of green west of Higbie and just north of Sunrise. Then of course you used to go to Westbrook, have neigbors going to Oquenock and live across Sunrise from those going to Manetuck, but you have to travel across town past Oquenock families who live closer to Bellew so that your son or daughter who is closer to OQ. or Man. can go to Bellew.
I feel badly for that area of town. It was not a fair relocate for that group of Westbrook families at all!
The other thing about the pretty little map is it doesn't show the realities of have 597 students in and ES building @ 95% capacity with more children than either ES. Not to belittle our other 3 schools which are not that far behind.
