Well every time we go to other schools I hear my share of vulgarity coming from the opposition. I am jealous of the tiger head Herrin's fb teams run out of at the beginning of the games.
I would like our outspoken principal and superintendent to do the RIGHT thing and report this behavior to IHSA. Perhaps rains can start earning his pay by prowling around the campus' and hearing what our kids are subjected to as the visitors. Instead, they take away our kids ability to protect "their turf" while others are visiting our school.
Chad Spence is the one who said that neither he, nor the other fb team members wanted the paint crew at the games. He doesn't like to be reminded that most of those kids played fb and quit because of his lack of inspiring leadership.
There are many important things going on in the world today, but NOTHING is as important to me as MY CHILDREN.

Seems that the people that are against the paint crew are objecting mainly to the cursing. I hate to burst your bubble but what do you think the football players are saying on the field? I guarantee that they are not talking nicely to each other but are cursing all the time and anyone who say they do not is very naive!

I'm curious about our principal and assistant. Did they come from where all sports events were monitored by the police and you were not even allowed to enter a basketball game except at breaks because the doors were locked? If so they need to realize that this is WF and we usually have no need of this enforcement. Maybe they need to chill out a little and see things from a less rigid perspective. I know the principal has kids. Does the assistant principal?

Well, they were cursing. The part you say about with their shirts on came later is incorrect. That's something the boys started saying but they were told in the beginnning to keep a shirt on. I don't have a dog in this fight, but at least what is posted needs to be correct. Some of the boys are stirring the pot by saying things that aren't the way it started.
I am not going to argue the fact that some of them were cursing or not. I will go as far as saying some of them might have been. I am saying that some of there parents would not tolerate it and would punish them for doing so. I too do not have a kid on the paint crew, but I enjoy the spirit that they bring to the game. I will stand by the person 100% who told me that they were NOT told at the beginning that they were to come to the game with a shirt on. The person who told me this has been above reproach since I have know him. This is a point that we must concede that we respectfully disagree.

What, can't pick on me alone because you see many others feel the same way about this administrative mess?

To Birds Fan: On behalf of the volleyball team, Thank You! It seems that almost all of our volleyball games are overlooked by the town. Even when we played against Benton, virtually no one besides parents or relatives and a few students attended. We would love, and could really use, some support from our town! I'm sure that the other teams you mentioned before would say the same thing. We sometimes feel that we're not as important as other sports because the turn out for our games is next-to-nothing compared to boy's basketball or varsity football. We like to go to those games too, and are in no way saying that we want to take away some of their support from the community, but we would definitely appreciate some more support ourselves.
I just wanted to let the girls and other sports teams that the Booster Club ensured that you were represented this year by posting painted, wooden jerseys on all of the posts throughout town, with your own name and number to honor your participation.
It may not seem like very much, but we are trying! Keep up the great work!

I agree with you on this. It is a start, and a good one. A lot of time goes into those signs. Cutting, painting, stencils, hanging, etc. But, can you think of anything better to do something good for than for kids. I meen the kids in our school really do deserve this. And yes they deserve us being there in person and supporting them when we can be there. They put it on the line for there school, parents, friends, and there community every time they compete; regardless of the sport. A quote I read recently is as follows. Being a champion has nothing to do with success and failure on the scoreboard, it has to do with choosing to have a championship character every moment of every day. That is why we should support ALL the teams, win or lose.

Being a champion happens other places. On the court, the field, the track...., yes, that is all important because those are the endeavors that we as the community can attend, and shout out our support for our kids.
But being a champion happens every day too. It happens when a kid says "no" to alcohol and drugs. It happens when they refuse to participate in choosing sides in adolescent arguments. It happens in the classroom when they arrive prepared and ready to participate in educational activities.
There are a lot of kids in our high school who have CLASS, CHARACTER, DIGNITY and a QUIET sense of personal PRIDE. It is VERY disappointing, and as a parent, INFURIATING to see that the administration and teachers refuse to reward those kids, for these points of moral merit, and continuously reward those students who do as they please, with no repercussions.
I am amazed at the parents who allow the unlawful drinking to go on at their houses. It seems as the years have killed their spirit also, right along with that of their kids. I am not speaking of the individuals of whom you might think. They just brought this disease to town, and as the economically privileged, they give others the mistaken idea that it is "cool" behavior.
Time for a truly, "cool" change.

I think that the signs are wonderful, and I am a member of the Booster Club. Wish we could do so much more.
I LOVE to focus on the positive. We HAVE never faced so much DRAMA and idiotic, questionable, run-amuck attitude from people who are making decisions for our community. Now is the time to put the brakes on. Sometimes you just have to cut a man loose. You have to face the truth about some things and it just so happens that perhaps, at least half of this new administration, needs to be put on a short leash, if not given his walking papers altogether.

My question is where is the principal in all of this mees? Shouldn't his word be the final say and not the assist..Where is our asteemed Superintendent, is he not weighing in on all of this. Seems to me someone(asst.) has just taken over and everyone is afraid of him!!!

Another champions quote that is with the first one I printed is this. "Being a champion has nothing to do with being #1, or the amount of playing time a person gets. In fact, being a champion is not exclusively a characteristic of athletes - there are champions in all facets of life: students can become champions, parents also...anyone can. We're talking about character, not winning and losing - championship character". That is why I spend as much time with my children as I possibly can. Trying to teach them right from wrong is a full time job in itself. How other parents raise there children is a concern of mine, but I have enough problems raising my own that I can't focus on there ways of child rearing. Besides my children aren't perfect. They make enough mistakes on there own, that they don't need me helping them make any more mistakes. I don't condone bad behavior in parents, I just know that I am not perfect as a parent either. Having said that, no I will not provide alcohol to my children.

Benton wins the volleyball contest tonight. Wish the paint crew could have been there yelling and cursing the visitors. Will we ever win another contest without the paint crew? Everyone knows that is why the football team isn't doing very good.

Wish the Admin. didn't make it so most students don't want to attend sporting events. Will we ever win another contest without them, "Yes". But, it sure would be nice if the kids wanted to come to school sporting events and cheer their classmates on. Would of liked to see the Cheering section full up, but, guess that's not gonna happen again anytime soon.

Cheering and school spirit are great, but put your shirts on like your were asked, and if you are causing a ruckus and making our team get a penalty for your vulgarness, then we don't need you!

You know that this is a dead issue. A resolution has been reached. Why you want to bring it up again puzzles me. The boys will wear there shirts or not show up. This is how it is, agree or disagree with the decision. But, to set the record straight, there was never a penalty called on the paint crew. Also, I believe the word you were searching for was vulgarity. Now, lets be positive and cheer on the Redbirds in girls basketball, boys basketball and wrestling this winter.
