Ohio Amish Puppy Mills Move Auction to Avoid Protestors

I hope the citizens in Geauga County will bombard their officials with protests against bringing this auction to their county. The handling of these poor creatures at the auction is beyond inhumane, but the industry they are coming from is even worse. We had a business in Holmes County for over ten years. The Amish view their animals as nothing more than possessions and when they learned they could use them to make money, it only became worse. You see how they value their horses when you see them out in the worst possible weather, be it hot sweltering sun or bitter icy cold. These horses are lathered and often bony. They tie them to posts in town with no water for hours while they wander around shopping in air conditioned stores and restaurants. Tourists seem to think these people are so quaint and charming. There is nothing charming about the way they treat their animals. This "cash crop" that they are raising now allows them to extend their cruelty to helpless companion animals. These dogs are kept in tiny cages, most not climate controlled in any way. They have no human contact which these companion animals need. They are often inbred. Anything to increase profit. This whole set-up works very well for the Amish. With the scarcity of land and their ever growing familes, this allows them to still "farm" with less land needed. Anyone that thinks this aucion and the industry that feeds it is a good thing, is either burying their head in the sand or shares the Amish's less than compassionate values.

When yee stop eating the from thee Hamburger mill let me know. Also check out the chicken farm and yee will know which comes first. Thee chicken or thee brown egg??

the amish live by thier own rules,they don't believe in most of our ways but they are suckers for the almighty dollar!

i'm beginning to wonder if anyone else remembers when animals weren't treated better the the children in this country. i'm sorry but animals are a source of income. we eat them, wear them, use them for testing so our lives are better. at the opposite side we think nothing of taking their habitat so we can have a new house and playground and then demand the animal that protects itself from us be killed by the proper authorities. if the money spent on pampered pets were spent on the world's underprivileged kids what a better world it would be!

I think that any sick individual involved in animal mills should suffer like they do! Let's put them in a tiny little cage without food or water and leave them out on a hot summer day or a below zero winter day. How the hell would they like it!? But still some people feel that they are only animals, that we eat them and we wear them and test on them to better our lives!? What the hell is wrong with you!? Do you eat cat or dog? We eat cow, chicken, pig, animals that are raised to be eaten and still treated better than the ones raised for pets. God will punish the sick freaks that do the unthinkable just to make a buck and I truely feel that is the only punishment that will stick to these cold hearted assholes! I hope they get what's coming to them and people who have common sense and a heart can join together and stop this cruelty that is happening to innocent animals.

Inhumane?what do you think about how the hospital and doctors did to my MOM...she had a stroke, was denied stroke medicine which reduces brain function loss because she is 92 yrs old, has been put on IV with no food for 12 days now.....she also has diabetes and high blood pressure but these meds were not administered because of their stating she has a living will and they are going to let nature take its course...IN HUMANE ? deffinately! we do treat animals better

S Hewett........I am sorry for what is happening to your mom, but your logic astounds me. Because your mother wasn't properly cared for, it's ok to mistreat animals that can't speak up for themselves? I mean come on, your mother has you to speak up for her, do you think a dog that is living in its own filth with minimal food and water deserves it because of something happening that is totally unrelated? And you stated your mother has a living will, it is her choice not to receive further medical care, these animals have no choice. I am trying to be nice because you are going through a difficult time. I understand that, I also have a mother who is dying, but I do not hold that against innocent, voiceless animals.

The above comment is perfectly stated. Animals have no voice. No one has the right to house mutiple dogs in wire cages without proper care and attention. It is a sick money making trade and I am not sure how anyone involved can sleep at night. Just look into the eyes of an abused dog and you will see the incredible pain and suffering they go through, yet they are still able to love those who mistreat them. I don't know of any human that would turn around and love their abuser. DO NOT BUY PUPPIES FROM PET STORES!! If you must have a purebreed sog, go through a breed rescue.

Maybe some of you Animal Rights People should do your own homework before you accuse...but it's easier to jump on bandwagons that you REALLY know nothing about. Try looking into what is REQUIRED to be a USDA approved kennel. It is not EASY work. Yes there are bad kennels out there, but there are also bad PETA employees...what about the animals killed and dumped by PETA employees (or do we not want to bring that up) Their is good and bad in all...DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK and LEARN THE TRUTH BEFORE YOU JUDGE.

Hi- I noticed you are from Austinburg...I am currently on a site called thePOOP that lists rescued animals...one named Minnie, an 8 year old, German shepard/collie/airdale mix. I want more info on her and there was no email...just ANIMALS in NEED and your town. Do you know of a rescue in your area? Please adivise...thank you!

My dog is a rescue from an Amish puppymill. They kept her in a small wire cage for five years. She had never seen grass or sunlight before she was rescued. When these so-called peace loving Christian Amish folks were done using her for breeding, they were going to shoot her. Thank God for the rescue groups out there who went in and saved her life. When I adopted her, I was so SHOCKED and OUTRAGED to learn that this type of cruelty is common with the Amish. What an eye opener!!! Now I refuse to buy any products (no Amish cheese, no Amish chicken, no Amish quilts) made by Amish people. What a bunch of religious hypocrites! They claim they don't like our modern way of life but they won't blink an eye when it comes to torturing dogs to make a buck! These people belong in the same cages they torture dogs in. Please don't buy Amish products or do business with any petstores that get their dogs from puppymills.

Check Petfinder.com or google "pomeranian rescue". There are senior rescues around St. Louis and tons of puppymills in Missouri from which dogs are rescued or bought by rescuers at auction. You shouldn't have a problem finding one, especially if you check through the humane societies, but they do ask a donation to keep them being able to do what they do!

I can see where you are coming from, but society changes. As the social norms of this country changed, so did the feelings toward certain issues, objects, or rights. By you referring to the past as an excuse for these mills is almost like saying if women were denied the right in political offices, it shouldn't be that big of a deal because remembering when women were not even allowed to vote. Also, if you look at it strictly from an economic perspective, the animals should atleast be cared for properly before being sold. Just like any business person cares for his products, so should a breeder.

[font size4]LIVING WILL[/font] Sorry to hear about your mother, I suffered the loss of my son, whom passed due to lack of communication. But it was your mothers wish to not be revieved if need, and to go to his heavenly father without complication.
It is not the same as treating animals like they are trash and just worth $$$ Yes we raise animals so that we may nourish our bodies. We also have our pets...be it cows, ducks, horse, chicken, pigs, even mice...and they are as stated PETS....but it gives no reason for people to treat them cruely. Animals don't have a say in their desires, wants and NEEDS....We as HUMANS do. Please rethink your comment as it is 2 different situations.

I have a puppy mill rescue bichon.He was rescued from an Amish puppy mill-I can't believe he has any love left in him after spending 5 yrs there.But he does-I have never found so much joy(except for raising 3 children)as the joy I get from him every day-It is like a miracle watching him learn something new everyday.He is so lovable and full of life after I have worked with him for over 2 yrs.There are times when his fear of humans come thru-maybe some of that will never leave-but he now has a forever home-he will never be hungry-thristy-too hot or too cold again.I will not buy any thing that has the word Amish on it-They are nothing but a crazy interbred money hungry CULT!!!!

i see why theres such a rise about puppy mills, but have you seen how the cows u eat are killed? or the conditions chickens are kept in? if we are going to stop animal abuse lets take it a step further and stop it all not just one part,

Some of the people here seem to have never heard the term "man's best friend". What animal do you think that refers to? Dogs(and horses too-the other animal the Amish like to abuse) have been our companions in hunting,war and work for thousands of years. Is it asking too much for the return of some of the loyalty they have shown us? The way these "holy folk" treat companion and work animals makes me glad I'm an atheist.

None of what I said condones cruel or unnecessarily inhumane treatment of other animals-except for rats, roaches and other pests.

Up untill now I held the Amish in high regards.
