The educational system was the best thing this country has going for itself! And now that government ran out and spent billions of tax dollars they don't yet have, we get this crap! Just how do you think the younger generation going to pay up for your poor system of government if they don't have an education to get good job?

Hey "Genius" the scholastic requirements where not mentioned.
Pricing was. Learn to read... or are you one of those who slipped by said bar?
Evidently you are in favor of class subjugation. Let us reserve the education for the wealthy huh?
You are indeed a tool.

Perhaps the idiots we have making the decisions feel that we need fewer educated people. Guess it doesn't matter, there are no jobs for them anyway.

I'm also the product of a state university. I started college late in life and, I would never have been able to attend if college hadn't been affordable and within driving distance of home.
So I'm not an education snob.
In the 30 years since I graduated, the costs of attending a state university have soared. So I support grants for students.
But now let's take that walk.
During World War II -- which we won despite this statistic -- only 3 percent of those in the military had college degrees.
By 1971 -- not long after I finished high school -- 44 percent of graduates attended college. That number jumped to 62 percent by 1995.
Last year, according to the School Boards Association, 73 percent of high school graduates were attending college.
My point now is the same as it was during my first walk down this path. Too many high school graduates go to college. Some of them simply don't belong, even if they are alumni of one of the "better" school districts.
When I was in high school, students were sent on one of three paths: academic, office/secretarial or general.
Those in the first group were prepared for college. The others geared up for work or the military. They became our plumbers and contractors and electricians. They kept our offices humming.
Somewhere along the road, that changed. Now, it seems, almost everyone is encouraged to sink themselves and their families in debt by enrolling in college.
Problem is, the debt isn't just theirs.
But taxpayers are shelling out too. Our support of remedial work in community colleges and state universities is costing us $13.8 million a year.
That's a lot of money spent to shore up the education of many who, in my opinion, shouldn't be in college in the first place.

Actually...recently one of the national news channels and I cannot remember exactly which one, it may have been CBS had a segment on the news in the evening about how college isn't worth it. The entire segment only showed white kids and how often do you see that these days? Really, they always have to shove black and hispanic representation into the picture. The segment was to coerce what seems to be the white middle class kids to bypass college and maybe just go to trade school and learn a skill. Do you know what this is, people????? It is the dumbing down of America as we know it. In order to further force blacks to "appear" at the same level, they try to force white kids to be dumbed down. They don't want them to go to college and continue to thrive on their own efforts as it doesn't help make the blacks look any better. So they have all these "special" black scholarships and hell, they even have black only colleges. Seems that they don't want to tell blacks not to go to college. This is disgusting!!! What the hell is this government doing??????? People, rise above this. If we continue to allow this, there is going to be a revolution for sure. This country is being torn aport, division is being created where they claim they want diversity. Diversity doesn't work when forced, only when it occurs naturally and willingly. People have the right to be happy when they earn what they have. If you don't earn it, you can't have it and that's the way it's supposed to be. College is now the next sector to be further dragged through this mud. What a screwed up country!!!!!

I am pursuing a doctoral degree at the moment and must disagree with you regarding attaining critical thinking skills. The higher degrees are nothing more than a regurgitation of previous studies. Why am I pursuing a doctoral degree? More money. With a Masters already on hand, I am close to six figures. I want to now bridge that gap. I was almost gaining respect for you until you made the statement, "Money isn't everything." Unfortunately, it is. For those who believe otherwise, accept the fact and you will come to peace with how life transpires and interprets itself. You might not like it, but it is here to stay. There is one answer for every question out there in life...follow the money. Oh yeah, I learned that at the University.
I received my Doctoral Degree 5 years ago. You and I have a differnt perspective about this. It's a shame that you devalue your degree to just "a bridge" to making more money. Your comments feel like they come from someone who has been through the public school system, here in Florida, and have continued to persue your degree at a Florida Public University...that's why you feel that you are repeating what you have already learned. I know how you feel. When we moved here from Massachusetss, my kids basically "repeated" what they had learned before...I guess it just shows that it's not the degree, but, where you get it....

I think you're right that some people are not cut out for college. Now whereas in past times people had many career choices, including blue-collar, now regular Americans can not get those jobs because immigrants, felons, etc. always seem to get them instead. Not to mention all the jobs that have been sent overseas. So now people have less choices. They're supposed to go to college and become some kind of higher-up and not everybody has it in them to do that.(Not to mention the "helicopter parenting ideal" has now spread to supervisors in the workplace when it comes to young graduates).

People think that a collede degree is a license to sit on your butt all day and make big money. I remember thinking that I would no longer have to do manual labor at work with my degree. Guess what I still have to do manual labor.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Libra

Remember that life isn't all fun and games: handle your responsibilities first, then plan how to have a good time. Your impulses, once you yield to them, will have a tendency to lead you further and further from where you need to be. Make sure you lock the door behind you before disappearing; when you're in this kind of mischievous mood, you probably won't want anyone else to know where you're going.
