I agree that fireworks can be dangerous. But so is almost everything else you do every day.
People in the age from 5-34 have a high chance of dying in a car accident than by any other way, but there are no laws saying we can't drive!
This man was careless for a moment and has paid the price, thankfully no one got hurt!
I don't think that one man's carelessness means you can take the freedom away from everyone else and take away their fireworks.
I grew up in a desert area and so it was obviously against the law to have any fireworks that took to the air, but we could light things on the ground. If you're worried about a neighbors bottle rocket or roman candle lighting your grass or roof on fire, than ban the fireworks that shoot in the air, but don't carelessly ban everything.
Unfortunately in 2007 a thoughtless ban of all fireworks become an ordinance in O Fallon.
Would you sign a petition to alter that ordinance to only ban fireworks that fly into the air, allowing ground display fireworks?

Personally, I don't want a ban on all fireworks. I would be ok with a ban on fireworks that shoot into the air though.

When I lived in south St. Louis, there was a neighbor across the alley that would shoot bottle rockets every night of the week of the 4th. I pretty much couldn't be outside in my yard because of the falling debris. I'd find them on my garage and house roof all the time. I'd ask that they not shoot them my way, but you just can't control them.

It always comes down to personal responsiblity. It is the few highly publicized cases that make politicians bold enough to start taking away any and all rights.
