What are you whining about Gman. Are you afraid that people who actually earn a living may take money out of your county social services check? Marxist control freak!

"The proposed 2008 county budget includes $500,000 to design the public range, but it would require millions more to prepare the site and actually build target areas and other amenities, such as a pro shop."

More wasted tax dollars for something that only a small percentage of the populaton would use, but don't even need in the first place. Just look at the inflated estimate charges, not even mentioning the millions in actual costs. And we wonder why our taxes are out of control? I'd rather waste money on sombrerros for legislature on Cinco de Mayo. Better yet, if we really have to blow the money why don't we spend it on the police force. Buy them more bullet proof vests and better equipment.

Don't we have enough flying bullets here already?

Whah Whah! Poor gun owners, don't have a public place to practice? why don't y'all build your own target range with private funds. why the heck is the gov't using tax dollars for a gun range when only a small percentage of the public would use it?

No doubt, NRA will start a membership drive to get as many people as possible to protest the delay. they'll say if everyone owned a gun, there'd be less crime. I guess with that attitude, don't look at strangers, don't go out in public, you may get hit by an errant bullet (oops, I meant to hit the guy next to you, sorry).

Just go out to the glades and set your own targets up and pop away.

Selfish self serving special interests are what's ruining things here. This is like tax dollars paying for dog park. Not everyone owns a dog, but we're all paying for it.

We're all idiots and deserve the gov't we have, we did vote them in didn't we?

If gun owners can't manage their frustration to the point that they would shoot at Palm Beach County Commisioners during a public meeting, I don't think they are mature enough to have a gun range. Where were the police when all this happened? Was anyone killed in the shooting? Why wasn't this on the news?

Actually, no one in Palm Beach needs to go to Markham park. You can go to J&B Outfitters in Indiantown. Blows Markham Park out of the water!

If these were profitable and necessary, a private business would be doing it.

The govenrment does not need to be in the shooting range business.

It's obvious that someone has a huge-grand scheme of what they would like to see. A range for the cops, School etc. That is where all the millions will be spent. The civilian part of the site could probably be built with the 500k already allocated. How much can it cost to build a berm so that bullets stay safely at the end of the range anyway (coupla days with a bulldozer) I say build the public part now and let the rest wait for the funding and build as funds become availiable.

Hey move to the land of Chavez or go live with Castro. who do you think you are to tell over 65% of the population we don't have a right to shoot. Yes that is right over 65% dip stick. good thing you don't have control over my accounts.

Agree, i mean what's it really take to have a gun range besides something to stop bullets.

When I was a kid my father (he was a police officer) used to take me to the old FOP lodge off of Belvedere road. The range was a bunch if chest high peices of plywood with a huge dirt berm. I remember that we shot in the direction of Belvedere rd. I don't recall any problem.
The county is saying 500K? Damn.. That is some expensive wood....
and for the a-hole saying to build our own range with private money, well, if I was allowed to build one in my backyard, I would but, the county does not allow for this.
