It is easy to understand that we are not in Texas. Two professionally trained law enforcement officers cannot shoot someone in the knee instead of fatally wounding a suspect ?! A screwdriver, and a knife come on now !

I don't see a problem with what they did. I am getting sick of all this crap myself. People think they can go out and do anything they want and not have to pay. Lets say they did shoot him in the knee. Here's what would happen next.... there would be a lawsuit over geting shot in the knee. then he would be put on disability for the rest of his life. then he would go right out and get in more trouble. i think we are too easy on criminals as it is. stop powdering their butts and using my tax dollars to feed them.

As someone who was once a "professionally trained" police officer, I can say three things. One, a man with a screw driver and a knife can kill you just as easily as a man with a gun. Two, shooting to wound a person would cause escruciating pain and be considered cruel and unusual punishment, and there is no guarantee that the man would stop coming after you. Three, the training provided is to shoot at center of mass. Police officers are not trained to look for non-vital locations to shoot at. We shoot center of mass because that is most likely to stop their momentum as they come after you. Unfortunately, most of your vital organs also happen to be in the chest. The man had a choice in this matter. If he had dropped his weapons, there would have been no need for the officers to defend themselves.

The police of today are not the peace officers of yesterday. They only know to kill. All it would have taken would have been a stun gun or either wait out the man with the screw driver. I am sure this incedent did'nt have to end in this mans death. We need peace officers back and not these jack booted thugs we have as police officers of today. Not all are bad as of yet but sooner or later we will be left with only the highly trained killers of today, dressed in black, hidden faces and name tags, and following orders no matter what the orders are....

From the wife of a Police Officer, One should not pass judgment without knowing the complete story. What if that were your son, daughter, wife, father? When it involves a family member, one feels differently about the situation. Yes, a screwdriver is a deadly weapon. Thankfully, this time the law officer made it home to his family unlike so many others who unfortunately do not. We should all thank the men and woman of law enforcement that go into danger when everyone else is running out.

i know if it were my husband i would want him to shoot the idiot. everybody gets all hyped up about the cops. i don't see the big deal. the guy had a weapon. no matter what the weapon is you are to drop it when an officer tells you to drop it. you don't drop it you get shot. has anybody stopped to think about the guy that got shot? he was breaking the law. don't be a criminal and there won't be a problem.

You know I think the general public has miss conception on things in life, or how it should go. The man had a knife and a screw driver he was not there to give out hugs and kisses. Your life or mine right here and right now. Second guess all you want, but I would have done just what the Officers at the scene did. I think that is enough said, unless you want to quit being a coward and defend the public, and then we can second guess you!

they don't want to defend the public. they just want to bad mouth the cops.
some people think all cops are bad. i know there are good and bad just like with any other profession. they are human beings after all.

i think that everybody that constantly bad mouths the police should have to spend every second of one week with a cop.

that may shut some of them up.

I agree!

It is sad when we need police to police the police!
We are currently witnessing a terrible misuse of Power. Isn't what this the purpose of our constitution to keep this nation free of becoming a POLICE STATE? If we continue to surrender our rights as citizens, what will be next, THOUGHT POLICE? It's very scary.

I think we should thank ALL of our "community helpers " who risk their lives for our safety. This includes Firemen, EMT., etc. Police should not have any greater rank than anyone else. Noone is above the law. Not even the Law enforcement officers. Police are supposed to be following guidelines just like everyone else. The only reason they seem to be crossing the line is because they have a "brotherhood" called the F.O.P. with all the crimes they seem to be commiting lately it seems that the Police themselves have become Gang members and Terroist!

There are a lot of excellent cops. They join the force simply because they believe they can make a difference.

But somehow Power changes People. Not all Police Officer's change. But, a majority of them use their badges as a form of testestorone replacement therapy. They enjoy their power and control over others. It gives them a sense of self-identification. Eventually their job has a totally different meaning for them.

but i think most of them are just good guys trying to make something decent out of this world.

I remember reading about the incident. The officers acted in a legal and moral manner.

Officers are not issued non-lethal means of subduing criminals.

The criminal had plenty of chances to surrender.

Does an intoxicated Police Officer have the right to force his way into a private residence without a warrant still claim to be acting in the 'LINE OF DUTY'????

Come on now, we have seen what a drunk Police Officer can do when he does not get his way in Illinois when the Officer beat the petit female bartender!

Mark Vance the Bristol Tennessee Police Officer who wa supposedly killed in the line of duty had been drinking just minutes before he died. He had been on duty an hour. Yet he is memoralized as a Hero!!

This was brought out by the Medical examiner in COURT, do you think the MEDIA will tell you that?

Police are not GODS! Media Bias STINKS!

cops can THINK you have guns and be subject to think things that are actually something like a small mini umbrella. Cops can under STRESS and not think right for a duration of 24 hours like anybody at an office job.(So I dont see how the hell they hold up with courts like theyre experts on everything most of the time, theyre not, but thats another story)

Facts:(noone likes facts) Mentally ill people will threaten sometimes and everyone should be able to have COPING SKILLS when being threatened...some mouths get loud & objects are picked up & wielded but doesnt mean seriousness & sometimes the persons are under the influence of drugs why dont the cops use tasers more? I tell you why since these costs more. Fact: cops have as big an ego as political billionares somehow & allow that to ruin theyre judgement thinking theyre god given, theyre not.

They should definately not be heralding any police officers that kill people as heros. How barbaric sick...

I definitely agree with ya!

It's scary don't you think. Police enjoy such a qualified immunity to the law, It's beginning to feel like George Orwell People!

The thought police are coming....the thought police are coming....the thought police is coming.

How about the recent Supreme court decision which states that a cop can ram your car if you are driving recklessly! They actually did that in Georgia. The teenage driver is now a parapalegic. But the courts say the cops were justified in ramming his car into a ditch. Now it is the law of the land. Of course the judge says this should be done with discretion. But are you ready to count how many cars get rammed by cops and get away with it?????
