"The Paradise Fire north of Shelter Cove is about 815 acres and 35% contained. Calfire reported significant progress on the blaze Thursday, despite tough fire fighting conditions. Fire crews and aircraft have also been able to take advantage of higher humidity and fog at night."
It went from 50 acres to 815 in 3 days!! why did they wait so long?? |

Problem identification: We need rain.
Solution: Think rain. Everybody think rain. Think big dark clouds quietly rolling in and filling the sky. Think big rain drops falling on your head. Imagine those big rain drops falling on the hills and putting out all the fires all over California. Think rain. Everybody think rain. Call, email your friends, relatives and ask them to think rain. Pass it along. |

Ninja, Local resources were on this very rugged and difficult fire right away. Noone waited for 3 days. I know! We were there for the first 4 days hauling water. You should be proud of Beginnings, Whale Gulch, Briceland, Palo Verde, Whitethorne, Honeydew, Shelter Cove fire departments. They are working so hard for many days straight. So support your local volunteers. Donate money, lots of money. |

hi - my son is at Ranch 717 as a counselor & we haven't heard from him for a few days - does anyone know what's happening there? We don't get much American news in NZ

Don't forget to rescue your chickens from your homesteads out there before they get fried.

Check out kmud.org , it's a Humboldt radio station with good coverage. Also try calling CALFIRE, formerly known as CDF. |

Guess you guys miss the loggers now. The Forest Service has busloads of recruits driving up and down the road. They don't get too dirty but they get three squares a day. Maybe the winds the buses stir up will drive some of the smoke out of the valley. Meanwhile the old bulldozers sit there idle, the old loggers unemployed and the forest burns all around us. What a lovely world brought to us by the Federal Government.

But you have a computer right? Fascinating. Go down to the picnic tables at the Patriot gas station and ask old Elmer (Mo) what's going on. He's like a newspaper but more factual. |

mum in new zealand:
hopefully you've heard from your son by now. My son was scheduled to attend camp at Bar 717 (obviously camp has been cancelled). The camp is totally safe but is being used by the CDF as a base camp. Your son has been busy taking care of the firefighters and manning water filling equipment. He'll have some great stories when he returns home! Let me know if you have not heard from him and I will forward emails. my email address is: sukell@comcast.net |
