The article says it could take several months to finish the clean up and restore all through-traffic. It does not say the road will be closed three months. It may very well be, but that is not what is reported.

Obviously this is China's fault and Obama's too.

It will be blamed on the Chinese, which WNC will use as an excuse to invade Tennesee.

Wow, what an easy solution. I'm guessing the Corps of Engineers wasn't the branch of the Army you were in, eh, guy.

Why does the news say" Rockslide Forces Permanent Closure Of I-40 In Haywood County"? But the article just below the headline reads "A rockslide on Interstate 40 in Haywood County has shut down a portion of the interstate at the North Carolina-Tennessee border, potentially for months."?

In response, I have been in 3rd world countries had this happened it would have been cleaned up and reopened within 5 days.looks like the DOT wants to spend some extra $$$$.

I agree with that ARMYGUY guy! Just push it across the road into the river (the river is right there, right?) and let the kayakers and whitewater rafters go crazy! Problem solved and brings in $$$$$$ to the local economy!

While of course DOT loves to milk a project for big bucks, to pretend that it is that simple is just stupid. First off, a third-world country wouldn't have the heavy-equipment necessary to move rocks that big "within 5 days", and the basic engineering of a slide of this scale requires a very careful removal so as to not trigger further slides.

You've all seen pictures of this slide, right? It massive! you all seem to think its a bit of gravel in the road.

I'm sure they'd love your input. You should drive up there and offer your keen insight based on your extensive world travels in '3rd world countries".

Sorry to bring specifics into your little armchair-engineering fest.

Why don't they get the army to blast the mountain? That's what Hooker would do! put the rocks in the river.

Ship the rocks to China. They can bust them up into small pieces, add some lead and sell them back to us as Pet Rocks" for children!

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Leo

It's hard to pin down a certain person today because they're being so vague and dithery. Ask them a question and they'll vacillate or be unable to give you a straight answer. You might suspect them of deceitful goings on but it's far more likely that they're simply in a world of their own and can't keep their mind on anything for long. Don't worry, they'll soon be back on planet earth.
