Minux, is this your first month on the internet? You're doing great!

LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! I NEED ATTENTION, LOOK AT ME!

Just think; right two people who just had sex are smoking a cigarette... and you're in your smoke-free apartment, alone.

I'll let your shameless need to feel important consume the board again... Just wanted you to know that we're all better people than you.

Your logic is fascist and not well thought-through.
Name a single instance of prohibition providing an effective solution.
One. And I pause for a response that can't come.
Just in case you need a reminder there, DuMaurier.

Still waiting.

People who complain about smoke at restaurants and bars have the right to stop visiting these places. The only people who get hurt by this are the business owners. Business owners should have the right to allow or prohibit smoking within their own businesses. I’m a non-smoker and know of many places that are smoke-free where my family and I can enjoy our food and many more smoke-free places to socialize. The people who are seeking employment at these places have the choice to apply or not to. If you say you can’t find another job maybe you should complain to your governmental representatives. ..or you should have stayed in school…or wore a rubber. It’s too bad that the morally-presumptuous people of the world must ruin what little freedoms we still have left.

You old smokers sure suck at insults.

Bottom line: Smoking kills, therefore smoking is being banned in more and more places.

You morons can pull out all your conspiracy theories but it won't change things. Threaten to take your pipe show elsewhere, it won't change things. Cite junk science and argue that the carcinogens and harmful chemicals in smoke are safe, hell, say that they're good for everyone. Again it doesn't change the truth.

You will never accept the fact that it's a filthy habit and is harmful to others. You are too old, too stubborn and too stupid to ever see the obvious.

Go ahead, keep claiming victory in an internet argument on an internet message system. Call people names if it makes you feel better. Huddle together with your fellow senile dementia sufferers and pretend that you're making a difference.

You've lost. I'm sorry. Have a great day.

The customers at the bars ignoring the ban have to go down the street into Indiana to buy their cigarettes to avoid the Illinois taxes LOL

I drive to Indiana at least 2x per month to buy smokes. I bet the carcinogens that my hummer releases into the air are harming you non-smokers' lungs worse than my cigarette smoke does. Go live in the forest if you want clean air hippie!!

Newspapers like to report a good fight - even if they have to make it themselves.

When Crain's Chicago Business ran an advance story with the title "Pipe show finds a way to light up" they made sure to have comments included by the American Cancer Society's Illinois director of public policy: "outrageous", "a clear violation of the law", "There will be unseen carcinogens lingering in the air for days afterward."

This was followed by the Chicago Daily Herald reporting "Pipe club has to move" and including words from the co-chairwoman of the Illinois Coalition Against Tobacco who had quickly contacted state health, law and political officials: "What concerns me is, I think they think there's a compromise. There's not a compromise. The act is clear - it's against the law to smoke indoors."

It's lucky there's been a long tradition of using tents in Illinois.

What a bunch of drama queens LOL. They should visit some bars in Chicago. I'm sure they would not be served. The owners will make that decision.

copy and paste from Dano in Illinois. "I bring good news from the courthouse in Salem, Illinois!

There, Maurice "Boog" Walker was accused as the bar owner of Fat's Rendezvous in Sandoval, Illinois with violating the Smoke Free Illinois Act. Walker had invited the news media and numerous politicians to attend a Smoke In at his tavern. The new media came and tv film crews videotaped numerous people smoking in his establishment this year. Walker was charged in a criminal Information with violating Section 15 of the Act for "encouraging and permitting people to smoke in a public place."

Today the charge was dropped by the Marion County State's Attorney, who appeared in open court and announced on-the-record, with a court reporter present, that he has determined that the Smoke Free Illinois Act is unconstitutional because it reaches innocent conduct (voluntary smoking) and thus violates due process, and violates the Proportionate Penalties provision of the Illinois Constitution of 1970 because the penalties imposed on owners of establishments are unlimited for each violation. In other words the penalty under the second sentence of section 45(b) of the Act could be One Trillion Dollars, or more, for a single violation." I would imagine that by now they already cancelled next year in Illinois.

Still waiting for one shred of evidence showing prohibition as a successful policy. One.

I'm originally from Ohio and I moved to Michigan for the great educational opportunities offered in the State. It's also beautiful, especially in the spring and summer; parts of the UP are some of the best camping I've ever had. Unfortunately, some people are vying hard to steal many of Michigan's freedoms. This particular freedom will make Michigan poorer, guaranteed; I mean less tax revenue AND less money in everyone's pockets. Says who? Many economists, but I'll link to a group of arguably the most respected economists in the country, the St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank:
http://research.stlouisfed.org/regecon/op/CRE...

I hope Michigan is ready to be even poorer.

Myself, and many of my friends from Chicago area go to the "UP" for many reasons. The Illinois smoke bans gives us another reason to go there. The businesses in Michigan love seeing us (and the Chicago $$$) Unlike Chicago, when my friends smoke in a bar in Michigan, we don't look over our shoulders for the "smoking gestapo". LOL. It's a much more relaxing atmosphere.

Again, it points out that these "traveling lobbyists" have absolutly no concern about local issues.
