She chose to park in violation in the first place. She didn't see the bright yellow parking ticket on her car???? Her father (owner of the car) didn't let her know about the following letters to him about the parking ticket????? The police were just doing their job as put forth to them by the City Council. Meaghan needs to grow up and be a big girl, follow the law in the first place and she won't get into trouble.

I wish I was an "innocent" little college girl that could cry naiveness, but who would really care about a story of a 45 year old man that has a warrant for arrest for an unpaid parking ticket. Hate to break it to you but the general public can see through your contemplated series of white lies. Hope your 15 minutes of fame was well worth it.

To both "Mary" and "15 minutes".....first of all, the holes in your arguments are astounding. 1. I was not parked next to a yellow line. If you watched the news clip or did any research in the slightest, you would know I was parked in a 20-minute loading zone outside my dorm. 2. My father is NOT the owner of the vehicle, I am. He lives at the address on my license; my home address. 3. Two letters were "sent" to this address nearly a year ago, in May and June. However, my father, who opens EVERYTHING of importance that is addressed to me, received neither of the notices. ALSO, he throws NO letters (unless "junk" mail) away until AFTER tax season. He's gone through every box and found NOTHING. A sheriff from my home county went to my HOME address at the end of July. I wasn't there, I was living in California. For confidentiality reason, the office couldn't disclose why he was there, thus my father had no idea he needed to warn me about a 20-minute loading violation ticket.
4. I didn't ask for the media to get a hold of this; yeah it was unfortunate that it happened, but in the last two years I have had a pair of tragedies that puts incidents like this into perspective. My political philosophy professor got wind of it and started a petition, not my doing. The town paper, college paper, college t.v. station, and KWWL soon caught wind as well. I have pursued NONE of this. 5. They didn't belt me in, a big issue for me, a stanch supported of tougher seatbelt laws. 6. They arrested me at 1 in the morning! I was busy cramming for a paper/presentation on political philosophy Thomas Hobbes when I was finally informed that I had had a warrant for the past six months. Waverly's a VERY small town and TWO squad cars were at my house on a notorious Wartburg "going out" night. This is a BIT overkill for a ten dollar ticket when there were most certainly individuals coming home from the bars, people driving drunk, and people without seat belts. AND at almost the same time, nearly a dozen cars were vandalized outside the high school while their owners were cheering on high school wrestlers at the state tournament, would have been nice to have the two additional squad cars patrolling the streets. 7. This isn't how Waverly generally handles Wartburg students for these parking violations outside the college. Usually security is notified and they contact the student. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case for me because I'm off campus this year. The police officers even went so far as to blatantly lie and say they didn't know I was a Wartburg student, however, at 12:20, 40 minutes BEFORE they arrested me, they left a message on my electronic campus phone line which is routed to my email (I didn't check my email until the following day to find this out). The only way to get that number (which I don't even know) is to contact the Wartburg College information desk, hard to know that if you don't ALREADY know the evildoer is a Wartburg student. 8. I don't have a retort for the "contemplated series of white lies" because I have no idea what you're talking about Evanston. 9. Mary, first of all don't patronize me with the "big girl" act. Let's put on our logical "big girl" pants and think this one through. Wartburg tuition is nearly 34,000 dollars a year, that parking ticket was a single $10 ticket,, I've paid such tickets in the past. If there was any type of legitimate promulgation of the ticket why would even a little, innocent, naive college GIRL not pay it?!? |
