A Navy recruit found dead outside a Waukegan motel Sunday died of an overdose of heroin, cocaine and anti-anxiety medication, Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said.

I feel honored to have known this young man for many years of his short life. He was smart, funny, compassionate and loyal. His family and our community is experiencing a huge loss.
