I can just imagine one Illinois Congressman's reaction "in Spanish" who serves on the Congressional Hispanic Caucus! I find it amazing he hasn't had anything to say! What? Nothing about poor people just trying to make a living, so they can send remittances home? I'm glad Kansas City's finest were also rounded up!

They are ruining our school system. If this keeps up all the long time residents of Wauk. are going to have to sell there homes. We can barely afford our taxes because of the schools needs to have more and more money to educate. So they say, and yet our drop out and pregnancy rate is over the top. We keep hoping education is the key, well it isn't. If something doesn't work for 15 years, you'd think they would have the guts to try something different hey!

Do a quick search online. School budgets are a matter of public record. Check out how much your school spends on ESL (English as a Second Language). I've seen reports on schools in Arizona and Calafornia where this expense has gone from a few thousand to MILLIONS in under 10 years.

Educating American, English speaking students is expensive enough. Add to that an ILLEGAL student who can't speak a word of English and the cost skyrockets.

Because the people who spoke German or Mandarin learned English when they came to the United States. What amazes me is they hang on to Spanish. Spanish is a European language. Almost every other country in the world has an emphasis on teaching other languages and or is bilingual- english came from europe oh yeah the ancestors which americans tried to get away from ...That "why dont we speak this or that" is just a subtle way of saying your dumb because any business man or capitalist will tell you spanish has more value than german or mandarin... hey im all for being trilingual french, english, spanish since its common sense that these are the two languages which border our country.. but let me know when you have to press 3 for german or 4 for mandarin and then mabey your point might hold a mm of water...whats up cindyeast you still pressing 1 these days?

Our Special Ed. program is hurting to. I nanny a special needs child. This program is failing him because there are a few behavior disorder children in the class and the rest are children who speak no English. Sad, so sad. So the focus is not based on Special Needs but language skills.

Even people in MX who speak Nahautl are not hanging on to it. They're learning and speaking Spanish. My bf's father and uncle speak the language but neither one taught their children. Kind of like the way the Indian languages here are going. I think any of languages of the Indians (native to the US) should be taught in school instead of Spanish. Also maybe Japanese since we seem to have a lot of business dealings with them.
