Story, photos: Film about Ed Gein goes into production in Omro

Full story: Green Bay Press-Gazette

Move over "Public Enemies" - it's Omro's turn in the spotlight. Movie lights and cameras are shining on the city of Omro, where a movie is being shot that takes a whimsical look at Ed Gein, the rural Plainfield handyman who is one of Wisconsin's most notorious murderers and grave robbers.

Do we really have to sink this low to get business in omro?
am i the only one who finds the thought of such a tactless display repulsive. There is never anything funny or musical abouthte abuse of women. This is the thinking that leads to these kinds of sick people.

I also find it very disturbing, anything for a buck. This is very sad I wish these sick people making these movies would put theirselves in the family's places whom have all lost dear ones because of this Ed. I hope noone goes to see this movie. I for one will not. They need to find better things to do with their time than make a disgusting movie about that freak.

after 50 years one would think the ppl in Plainfield could be left alone and not be botherd by or continuously reminded of the grotest horrible past,I wonder? if McDonalds can get sued over a hot cup of coffee what charges the folks at Plainfield could have? Keep kicken the door and they may find out! My spelling may not be the best but I think my point of it all is.

Yes Shane I agree with you. I for one would never want to promote this movie. Some people anything for a buck Regardless of peoples feelings and how many people may be very hurt about this movie.

I have been keeping up with the local papers exuberance for this travesty. To have the audacity to call this a morality play definitely says something telling about the local reporter and historical society. How short of funds are they to think there could be anything redeeming in this nauseating debacle.. One can only pray that this project falls apart before anyone makes the first dollar off it, for that would be the best end to this.

I was told this story by the guy who's land is on the same block as Ed Gein was so his and Ed's came together. He told me that just after Ed was arrested he brought the property next to his. The land was very wooded and he wanted to grow crops, so he and his brother used a old tractor and saws to get rid of the trees. It was very hard work and in the mid of Aug. it was very hot. He said one day while he and his brother was trying to turn the soil with a old plow, what they thought was a stone flipped over onto the new soil. This guy stopped the tractor because right away he could see that it was not a stone but something else. He climbed off his tractor and went over to take a better look. He yelled to his brother and said I found something !! Sure enough it was a skull, he picked it up and as he did he said the air got very still and there was not a sound in the air. He felt kind of creepy all over like someone was watching him from a distance. His brother just stared at it, and then this guy broke the silence when he said. You think it was a adult or a youth, his brother paused for a moment and said I am not sure, but from the looks of the horns my guess would be it was a pretty big buck...

Hey JDT I can only pray you are right on this one. I hope they dont make one cent from it. About 20 years my family went to a auction in Plainfield and they were auctioning off some chairs. One man I did not know commented and said I wonder if Ed Gein made them? I found no humor in this. I find no humor in any of it. Take care now!
