If I could make one wish for this year it would be that we are able to elect serious Judges who are firm on violent crime sentencing and firm on gang crime's and violence. Our community's need this desperately :):)

I agree with you Jimi...not great loss here. And Judge Almquist, if he is still around he needs to go as well.

Yes, I agree completely, having observed two trials with him on the bench - and Almquist? jeebuz - what a maroon - and we are stuck with them both, not to mention the antics of Mariganda, Volkman, Guy, and Salazar - all stink, all appointed.

Maybe someone with a sense of Justice and the Rule of Law will get Barton's seat, it would be a nice change. Barton would make everyone wait in the cold when he would arrive late to court in his Mercedes. He also hid appeals of his decisions that were against him from at least one defendant that I know of.

Actually, he is quite right. Anyone who has followed cases through these judges' courts have seen MANY dimwit and ridiculous decisions. It's almost impossible to get rid of a judge via legal malpractice. The Bar Association and every other check and balance in regards to judges, are under the perview of other ATTORNEY'S. That ought to tell you something right there.

You do realize that what you are complaining about has far more to do with the DA's office than with any judge, don't you?

You don't?

Yep.

Too funny. I once used the word "maroon" here in the same way. One of the many typical, clueless, PC Santa Cruz types who post here blew up at me and accused me of being a racist!

Bugs Bunny deprived in his youth, I guess.

All five prospects are either civil attorneys or defense attorneys! None I'd ever vote for. Where are the proficient and experienced prosecutors? Wow, expect continued soft on crime liberal biased judicial decisions. The newest, biased, unqualified Liberal Supreme Court bench sitter must be very proud!

Gallagher is obviously going to be a soft on crime kinda guy, Connolly has a good reputation as a family court judge pro tem, Sibley is backed by mostly out of town law dogs, Fishman is an unknown, Wright always says what nice people his criminal clients are, plus he is old and unhealthy - and nobody is going to run against Volkmann.

Are you saying that all of these applicants intent to judge according to their own politics and not according to the Law? That's a pretty strong accusation.

As to why a wider range of applicants aren't scrambling for the post yet... just a guess, but it has to be immensely frustrating for a judge who takes a hard stance against crime to work in a county like this one.'Nuff said.

I agree a judge should be hard on criminals, especially repeat offenders. However, a judge needs to be judicious and weight the facts, or our judicial system becomes corrupt. Not all judges - despite the recent trend here - need to be prosecutors, they just need to be intelligent and follow the law.

Is it Saun Ghallager. I bet if Judge Burton thought long enough he would remember me. He made a mistake that day.
