Spectator-I agree with where you are coming from. Every coach talks about "building a program". I don't think the football coach has any idea as to how to do this. How can he honestly leave a kid in the game with the score 60 to whatever and he has already ran for more than 300 plus yards! It "IS" only high school football!

I agree that it isn't wise to keep a star player like Sam Milbrett in that long, especially after they have the win sealed. I disagree, though, with the statement about the coach not knowing how to build a program. I do not know if you were referring to Coach Wendland or not when you said "coach," but if you were, I would like you to know that he is doing everything in his power to build a solid Waseca football program. Playing under him for several years really showed me the passion he has for the game and the passion he has for making this program elite. I do believe he is on the right track and will continue to build the Waseca football program! Go Jays!

Wendland has does a nice job with the talent he has. Give the guy a break. I do agree with the two prior comments about Milbrett. Why risk injury..why run up the score JUST to get a kid a RECORD. Over the years we've seen this come back to haunt coaches.

Totally agree with you Looking Parent. On the bright side, though, Milbrett is fine! Also on the bright side, the Jay train continues to roll! Go get em' Jays. Upset tomorrow at 2!

I am very pleased with how the Jays are ending their season! Taking down the undefeated #1 seed Belle Plaine, and now only one game away from state--awesome! Take it to Minneapolis Washburn, Bluejays.

Milbret is just a "nice" highschool running back. Your running back a couple of years was more of a threat I felt. I can't remeber his name off the top of my head now. Milbtrett may be able to play at the D3 level-MAYBE? It's too small. He would need to put 15-20 pounds on to get him at 195#.
Go luck Jays with Washburn Friday. I hope you win.

I'd say maybe D3 to, i dunno. Barry Quickstad is by far the best jays have ever had. He was big, strong, and ran a 4.4.. but he still had to go to community college and then got a year in dakota.. he also didn't need 40 carries a game to get yards. Its kind of sad that these kids are takin these records cause the whole team has to play based around them. but no one looks at the real picture. Hoehn and quickstad didn't need tons of carries to get huge yards in a game. Loonan broke records but he only got into a school that anyone can roster on

It's always hard to compare records in any sport be it football or whatever. In a team sport like football you have to look at the quality of the line play. You have to look at if a team has a passing game. I didn't see Ed Hoehn play but I did see Barry run and watched Jimmy play a game against Waterville. Quicksted had a nice line to run in back of. The offense could keep the defense honest by passing as well. Loonan on the other hand ran between the tackles better than Quicksted. He didn't have a passing game to support him. WEM's game play was to stop Loonan and make the Jays pass. We could on and on.

I can quite honestly say that the blue jays have definately improved since the beginning of the season. I think the players are starting to work as a team instead of a one man army out there. And think they realized this during the game against Blue Earth! What the hell happened! Milbrett? have you been juicing? haha but seriously what it really boils down to is how well can you kiss your coaches ass. If you want a starting position, you will have to put on your knee pads for your coach. You can lift weights, be the fastest, smartest, strongest, hardest working player out there, but if the coach doesn't like you or you havn't been doing enough in his eyes then you better save yourself a spot on the bench. Has anyone seen the movie varsity blues? Exactly, same scenario. And really people... this is fucking highschool football,.. not college, not pros not anything more. And I somewhat agree and disagree with Iron man 69 because yes, if you work hard you will get a spot to play, but have the coaches really been doing their job? Yes there are people that like to screw around and bullshit but thats everyone! not just the back ups! Imagine the potential of a team that could double by utilizing the "back ups" instead of only letting them play the fourth quarter or at all. The coaches need to start pushing the extras harder to reach their full potential instead of just focusing on the starting players during practice and games. afterall isn't this what a coach is supposed to do? Judging by this, the jays wont make it to state this year...
yup....good call on not making it to state..

I heard Wendland is bringing up a freshman for this Saturday? I hope it doesn't disrupt team chemistry.

Im putting my name on here because i dont have anything to hide.

The Waseca Bluejays Football team has been through alot this year, and have come together to be a band of brothers. The whole school sees them as exactly that a band of brothers. We cheer for the Jays, the TEAM. Sure in every team you have those who stand out or step up as leaders, but they dont see themselves as better than everyone else at all, they just go out there and give it there best. why should we degrade them for this? When i think of how well the jays have done this year i think of everyone on the TEAM and they made it to state together, working together, acting as a band of brothers, acting as a TEAM. And that TEAM is going to kick some ass tonight and bring us to the Dome! Im proud to be apart of such a great high school experience.. and i have nothing but positive thoughs and apreciation for the Waseca Bluejays Football TEAM! GREAT JOB BOYS!! LETS WHOOP SOME KASSON ASS!!!(<3 #32)

Jays lose 46-14. Kasson was a very tough squad to come up against; they were the complete package with a passing/running game and a great defense. It was GREAT to see the Jays get that far though! Seniors--you will be missed. Again, great season Waseca!
