AUGUSTA (Sep 8): On Sept. 19 and 20, approximately 1,900 Jehovah's Witnesses from central Maine will gather for their annual two-day assembly at the Civic Center, 76 Community Drive in Augusta. The scriptural theme of the gathering will be "Safeguard Your Spirituality," based on Romans 8:5 and Jude 17-19.

I have gone to many assembly's in Augusta. There was a time when they stopped going there because there was not enough room. They had us going to Portland Civic Center to accommodate the growth for circuit assemblies.. I guess numbers must be dropping if they are going back to Augusta?

The motorcycle toy run is the following week. That is a much better cause.

Well Jake, The stats are in sir. The wt org is loosing 7,000 followers a month due to the internet. Mostly the young jw's because they can jump on the net and find out in about five minutes the wt's past false predictions, changed doctrine, changed rules, words removed and added to their nwt bible, all the pedofile cases they lost in court. So in about 5 to 10 years there is only gonna be a few old jw's left in the kh's looking at each other wondering what the heck their still doing there!!!

What a load of rubbish! Try looking in Yearbook and youll see increases year on year .Sure some drop out (as surely happens in every religion even in bible times) but a darned sight more replace them,so in 5-10years (if armagedon hasnt come) instead of 7000,000 there will be 10,000,000. and youll still be holding "moaning meetings" in the local telephone booth! Ha Ha!

Well they can print what they want, but halls around where I live have less members then they did 10 yrs ago here. We all know when they count their members, they count inactive members as long as they were in good standing. So I do not trust their stats. I can walk into halls I have attended in the past and see empty seats that were once filled.

Same in my area.

In my city there used to be six congregations. Now there are five.
Nearby town had two, now there is one.
Another nearby town had two also, now there is one.
My mother's hall is shrinking to almost nothing.
3 towns within half an hour's drive of here have had their congregations dissolved over the last decade, and one of them was merged into the congregations in my city. Yet we still are down a congregation.

I cannot say for growth in Canada overall, but the growth in Ontario is not there. If anything there is declining membership.

The conventions used to be in Hamilton at Copp's, seating about 15-20,000. Now they are in Kitchener in an auditorium that seats about 7000.

Proverbs 15:7 "The lips of the wise ones keep scattering knowledge about, but the heart of the stupid ones is not like that."

People are running for the hills due to the multitude of lies being told by the WTBTS and the truth and knowledge they are coming across on forums and sites like this one.

Yes, it is the lips of the wise ones who keep scattering knowledge.

It's funny how JWs come on here and argue numbers and statistics. So what? Statistics of membership in the WTBTS prove nothing. Living by the Bible's standards does. When it comes to the WTBTS, it's ALWAYS about the numbers.

Oh it's in the year book, it must be right. I bet they still count my mother as a JW, she was never Df'D, but she thinks they are a cult and hasn't been to a meeting in 10 yrs. In my area, hall attendance is dropping. The proof is showing up at the hall on any given Sunday.

Bottom line: It's about the numbers. I know for a fact that right before a congregation is expecting their Circuit Overseer, the members hustle to get service hours in and talks are given about conduct at the KH (especially that of the kids). The majority of the talks (which are nothing more than letures) leading up to the CO's visit involve meeting/service ATTENDANCE. During the time of the CO's visit, everyone puts on their "other face", meeting attendance is up, everyone is going out in service and the parents make sure they and their children are on their best behavior. But once the CO leaves, it's back to the normal run-of-the mill KH stuff. During a CO's visit there were 106 people in attendance. He left. The number dropped to 84 at the next meeting, which was about normal.

If the anecdotal evidence from far and wide is of decreasing numbers, then that would cast serious doubt upon the official numbers.

It is certainly interesting that, according to poll numbers (much more accurate than anecdotal numbers and possibly biased reports) 67% of people raised as JWs leave.

That's pretty staggering.

Daily Horoscope for December 12

Pisces

Ask someone for their advice and they'll still be talking half an hour later. Unfortunately, even though they're saying a lot, there may not be many pearls of wisdom in their conversation and you may quickly decide that they're just yakking on about whatever has popped into their head, with little or no relevance to what you asked them in the first place. Ho hum!
