No Lowe's in North Adams?

The state isn't expected to rule on whether or not the plans for a Lowe's home improvement store on Curran Highway are "green" enough until the end the month, but Mayor John Barrett III is questioning if the ... Full Story

North Adams doesn't need a Lowe's. Greenburg and Carr's if just fine if you ask me. What kind of pocket-lining kickback is Barrett getting from this deal anyway?

of course we need lowe's. it will grow the tax base, provide much needed J O B S and expand the local economy! greenburg's and carr's won't shrink from the competition and ultimately the consumer wins. get it? competiton? good for the consumer? as for the kickback, what makes you think there is one? i don't particularly care for the mayor however, a kickback? any evidence?

I agree - Im not a big box shopper and would hate to see Greenbergs, Carr, Aubuchon, etc. put out of business... ESPECIALLY in today's economy... BUT, that plaza is such an eyesore. Something attractive needs to to in there.

yes, greenbergs and carrs will be negatively impacted and as for the possible Lowe jobs, let's see how many will be full-time, how many will be part-time, what the hourly rate will be [not much over minimum wage, I'll bet] and will employees be offered a decent benefits package? The days of any job is better than no job are over. A quantity of poor wage jobs hurts an area FAR MORE than it helps.

Great leadership in sheparding this thru the city and state approvals. By the time he gets this done < Lowes will visit North Adams and realize there is no demand for a new Lowes. Let the grass grow at the center. It looks great.

Now that Lowes will not be built we can save millions and millions by not building the bridge to Nowheres. Our citizens in North Adams can head west to the Village Beautiful instead of South .

Meet the "Green Governor". This all the work of caddilac de'ville. He is committed to making the state the greenist in the country, because he says it creates jobs. No one dares to challange him, because green is good. Just like the caddy and curtains this jerk is out of touch. And people just follow him like blind sheep to slaughter. Hey it's all good. Welcome to the new Massachusetts. The future is now.

OK, I will just keep driving to Lowes in Saratoga Springs. NY. Many of the Lowes employees have been working for the company for years. They say it is a great place to work. I was just talking to one fellow this evening at Lowes, told me he went to NASC and loved NA. The only people who still believe in global warming is Al Gore and profiteers. Dont give up Mr. Mayor.

This is Barrett shaking the tree. I can only imagine that he gave the Guv an earful at the parade.

The problem is that it really sounds like someone at the state, the developer or Lowe's is doing a pre-emptive CYA.

Maybe the reason why he sends his kids to Adams schools is because the books in our schools are dated 1987.barrett should be ashamed of having 21 year old books in school. No wonder that they can not pass a state test. They are still learning things from the last decade
