amen! BUT why dont you start by giving them plenty of room. They generally start taking the full lane so that some driver doesnt clip them with their mirror or blow by them so closeley they lose their balance. Someone has to start doing the right thing, why not make it you? Maybe they will then follow your example.

I don't drive recklessly, but I also don't walk down the middle of the road and expect people to drive around me. Bikers need to realize they don't get special treatment on the road, and not everyone is as careful as they should be. Just because bikers feel like drivers should "give them more room", doesn't mean that it will happen. If I give them more room, I'd say 5 others still will not. Maybe bikers should start by doing the right thing, and not trying to compete with 2 ton vehicle.

There was this one time about two years ago where I was driving along Library Street towards Fast Stop, when there was a little kid who was riding his bike partially into my lane of the road. I had slowed down and was getting ready to pass him up when he BOLTED right in front of me and crossed the road. If I hadn't braked fast enough, it would have most likely resulted in my vehicle hitting him. And I would have probably been the one who would have been blamed for "not controlling my vehicle". In the whole encounter, he never ONCE looked back my way to see if it was clear or not. He just instantly crossed over the road when I was only 20-25 feet behind him going 25 mph. I honked my horn for at least 5 seconds after he had crossed the road. All he had done was looked at me like I was the crazy one. Little punk. So yes, I completely agree, bicyclists need to understand that even though the law may state they have the right away most of the time, I'd rather not tempt fate with a little bike vs. a 2 ton vehicle. THEY need to be the ones who are smart enough to realize, "Well let's see, there's a car coming up right behind me... maybe now isn't the best time to cross the road?!"

I like riding a 10 speed because It's fun, it gives me energy and it's a great way to stay in shape. I used to live in the city, but I figured living here would be more relaxing, little more manageable, and it's a great way to stay in shape. I work at accounts receiveable in Columbia, it's not too demanding, the pay is good, and it's a great way to stay in shape. I'm livin life before the cancer I have kills me, so I don't mind the rain, water feels good on my skin. It's cool, refreshing and it's a great way to stay in shape. It's rectal cancer, It's slowly eating away at my lower insides. It's a quick process, both painful and untreatable and it's a great way to stay in shape!

They are vehicles. Get over it and go around them. You have to use the other lane to pass a car, why not when you pass a bike.

I couldnt agree more. About 4 years ago I too was driving out towards Lakeview Park in Waterloo. A small child was riding along the road - I slowed down as there was oncoming traffic. When I had room to go in the other lane around him he darted right in front of me - he never looked to see if anybody was behind him ! Was very lucky I did not run him over. I respect people riding bikes but why do they feel they can win against a car or truck. Parents also need to teach their kids to look aroud and pay attention maybe as parents we are not teaching our kids respect anymoe .

A year or so ago there was some sort of huge bike rider "ride" where they apparently came south out of Waterloo down Old Red Bud Road, made a right on Quarry road, made a right on Route 3 for about 200 yards, then a left on Kaskaskia. Apparently they thought they "owned the road" and pedaled right out in front of me on to route 3 north. I started to pass them when they swung a left on to Kaskaskia, not even looking over their shoulder. I laid on the horn and about 5 of them flipped me off. Next time I won't slow down. Ass holes.

You started off saying that the bike rider was a LITTLE KID!!! I think most people on here are complaining of adults. Of course it would've been your fault! When you see a child riding a bike and you're driving a vehicle, YOU BETTER BE READY FOR THE UNEXPECTED!! As far as adults riding bikes, act like grown ups and get to the side of the road!! People in cars don't want to follow your butts around while you ride at 5 MPH and take the entire lane to yourself. If I were in a car that was running poorly, I'd pull over so others could pass me. You should do the same!

A lot of cyclists are inconsiderate and selfish on the road, even more drivers are. The cyclists are risking their own well being, its stupid but it IS their LEGAL right to be there(near the shoulder, using the middle of a lane is ticketable). Drivers are also risking the cyclists lives when they behave poorly. That's MASSIVELY MORE selfish and inconsiderate, not to mention illegal. Intentionally causing a cyclist to crash would mean a murder conviction if cyclist died and the driver were caught. Both sides need to wake up and smell the coffee. Vent all you want, its healthy, but bikes aren't required to exit the roadway( I know that's not what the original poster meant, but its what most ranters expect).

About eight or so years ago maybe more we had a jerk in a truck that hated bike riders on Bluff Road that he ran over a woman who was on her bike "on purpose". She was almost killed ended up with over $80.000 in hospital bills, the case went to court and he "said he did it because he did not want people on Bluff Road on bikes" and he if I recall correctly did not do any time for what he did... so biker beware. The roads are full of fools.

You're really struggling here, aren't you? Did you read ANYTHING I posted? I don't pass bikes, I ride SLOWWWWLY behind them, because I would never want to harm ANYONE. I have NO problem with people riding bikes!! Geeeze Louise! What I said was that they ride at their own risk. Like a previous poster said, there are lots of dangerous drivers on the road, they wouldn't use the caution I do. If somone hits a bike rider, they should absolutly go to jail!(if it was the drivers fault, I can't say that all bike riders are completely cautious and innocent either).
