what bar is the best bar in waterloo??

They all suck. I drink at home so I can sit on the computer and BS on topix. its way cheaper too.

Outsiders and JV's are a safe place to go. Stay away from Main St., 4th St., and Bobecks.

There's nothing wrong with Main Street. I'd be willing to bet Hue's never been in there. If you go in there looking for fun you'll have a good time but if you go in looking for trouble you're probably going to find some. The guy that runs the place kicks anyone that gets in a fight out and once you're kicked out you're barred for an awful long time.

My husband and I have been eating at Lou & Michelle's/Bobeck's at least once a week for the past 12 years, and we have never had any problems or seen any trouble. We don't go the same night week, and whether they're having a slow night or we have to wait to get a table, I have yet to see any problems.

Going in there at 7:00 to eat is a whole different atmosphere than going in there from 9:00-12:00.

JVs and Outsiders are good to sit and have a cocktail and talk to the 40s crowd. Main Street is disgusting. No opinion on Bobeck's.

Willie's West End is a great place to play some cards.

I agree, it is a different atmosphere (especially on nights when they have music). However, other than a stabbing a couple of years ago (which probably had nothing to do with the bar), I haven't heard of any trouble there. That being said, I don't know why the original poster doesn't just try out all of the bars and decide for him/herself which one is best. Isn't all just a matter of opinion anyway?

I only come home once every couple years but main street is a good bar, the people are good and the atmosphere is good. Outsiders used to be a good spot but it seems like all the locals switched over the last 15 years to main st.. Sheebee and Larson turned it into outsiders years ago and it remained the same as Mikes which is where the local crowd hung out back in the 70's and 80's. I think Paul Deihl stills runs main st. and Jackson bartends, regardless main st. is a good tavern. One thing I found out about in J.V.'s is that if you sit and watch the locals come and go they slander each and every one that comes and goes. It is a wonderful backstabbing establishment.

To likes fresh air, if you can't handle the heat stay out of the kitchen. A barmaid told my wife at a tavern 15 years back when she asked for a candy bar, if you want candy go to a candy shop we sell beer and cigs here!
