Being a dog lover, I wanted to do something to help save dogs that are abandoned and abused. I decided to become a Volunteer with Chihuahua Rescue USA. I was required to get a conditional use permit. While other towns in the area charge a flat fee between $10 to $50.00, the Town of Mukwonago can charge whatever they want. I was told there was an application fee of $300 and the lawyer would charge to REVIEW my application. Silly me thought the $300 would cover the majority of the charges. Then I got a bill for $753.10 for additional fees.(One of the fees was for a $130 email I received from the Planning Commissioner) I can't get him to return my emails to explain that charge.
When I went to pay my bill, I was informed that I would be getting ANOTHER bill to have my paperwork REVIEWED AGAIN and to file the paperwork. This is ridiculous!! The town clerk couldn't explain anything to me. She told me I could submit a form to dispute the charges, but guess what, THEY CAN CHARGE ANOTHER FEE. When does it end? Why is our local government allowed to take advantage of their citizens? Why is the Town of Mukwonago the only town charging these over inflated fees? Initially I was told that this would be a one time fee, but now I'm told the town lawyer will charge me $250 to REVIEW my application yearly, PLUS MORE processing fees.( The other towns don't utilize a lawyer to review applications.) How can these people look at themselves in the mirror? I'm just trying to help rescue dogs. They should NOT be allowed to take advantage of the citizens. Since I can't afford their inflated fees, I am forced to give up fostering rescue dogs!! |

This is absolutely ubsurd, this area in Mukwonago with it's increase in industrial growth and commodification is totally loosing there sense of community that once existed. One would think a community would help those who want to progress on issues such as this, which benefit others through selfish motives. I wish there was something I could do, but I intend to somehow begin and advocate for this and other issues that are arising, and after this notice of Mukwonago's reluctancy to care for it's citizens I fear my hopes for implementation of any action seem they will only be resisted, or financially not capable of spreading the voices that need to be heard.
