This is an oxymoron statement "company says the plant will reduce the cost of electricity". The Electric Company just won the ok to increase rates, last month. Where does the thought process of these folks come from? People do have memories of what was written and said. Sounds like a poor story, to get the sympathy of the public for the ok. Geeeish!!

UI asked for a rate increase. This is not a UI plant, it's a merchant plant. They are saying this plant will reduce generation costs. It's really not that hard to understand, is it? Also, this is a plant run on natural gas, so the concerns about air quality, when much of our current generation cones from coal, is unfounded

Build it in Ellington in place of the Starbucks Coffee Shop.

I am single handedly trying to stop global warming in order to provide a planet that my children and grandchildren can enjoy. It has been painful at times and I have met with much adversity along the way from special interest groups opposed to my efforts. I still live my life with a bigger picture and an appreciation for mother earth and my place on it. I have tried to run my air conditioner as long and as hard as I can this summer. I leave the door and windows open to allow the cool air to escape and cool the environment. When driving my car I put the AC on high and the windows down. It may run me another 5 bucks at the pump, but maybe, just maybe I helped save a polar bear today. We need power plants like this. As more people come to realize that global warming is a serious problem we all need to address, they'll start running their air conditioners harder too and we'll need more power plants. For the world - for the polar bears.

Hooray - we are idiots! Lets pretend that electricity is magic and that we do not need power plants! Lets make sure the Waterbury remains a depressed sewer - and lets pretend that the emissions from a natural gas plant are harmful. Good work all you local politicians - apparently the people of Waterbury like the way things are. I suggest shutting off the electricity altogether.

This is why people think the "green" crowd is a bunch of morons, because, generally speaking, they are. Build more nuclear plants and the power supply will go up exponentially... We have 2 nuke reactors in CT and they provide 20% of the state's power. So, in theory, another 8 reactors and we'd be able to close every fossil fuel plant in Connecticut...

Natural gas is so much cleaner than coal or oil. No mercury, less CO2, etc. Plus it is produced in North America. If we're going to use fossil fuels, this is the one to use.

I think that poster wasnt being serious about the AC/polar Bears. But I agree, build the nuke plants. Thats a good start to beating this energy crisis that were in.

this "not in my back yard" crap needs to stop. this country is being destroyed because we can't build infrastucture to keep up with demand ( no power plants no refineries no wind power no power lines)and people blame the politicians, its not them in this case its the ignorant public.

Maybe Derby would be happy with it. Lower my taxes, a grid propping plant near by... Not a bad deal

Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Next the protesters will demand lower energy prices! Don't these people have jobs? Instead of protesting go to work!

I think we should put every plant in places like Waterbury. They are the one's using more energy assistance.

Valid concerns indeed - but where SHOULD the power plants be located? How about the transmission lines that we need to bring in more and more and more power? We know our neighbors in Fairfield county with 5,000 square foot homes with 400 and 800 amp services don't want power plants nearby, nor do they want any visible power lines bringing in power from elsewhere. No one wants nuclear in their backyard. No one wants to dam up more rivers.....and all of this NIMBY mentality contributes to the hostile business environment in CT.....wait, here's the solution that everyone supports - put it "somewhere else". Let me know how it works out....I'll be "somewhere else".

To Danny: Oh yeah......running your a/c & leaving the windows open on your car & the windows & doors open in your home will cool the polar bears all the way up on the polar cap.....what in the world are you drinking, smoking or sniffing. I really would like to live in your world for awhile......must be fun in there!
