And all because America has forsaken the Lord, and let the corrupt in Government become their god. Destroy the family, parents rights all in the name of enlightenment when with each step America sinks further into the abyss of uncivilized darkness.

Sounds like one man's corruption, is another man's freedom.
I suppose you would prefer that government "regulate" every detail of our lives?

The lord has nothing to do with it. Man makes regulations and God hands down commandments. I see nothing in the 10 commandments about the age of consent.

In fact, historically, daughters were married off at very young ages.
If U.S. laws and regulations were based on the Bible, all sorts of currently "illegal" acts and behaviors would be LEGAL.

Amen!

Some people just like to remember what they want and state it as God's law.

Only the parts of the Bible you like, right?

From what I see, the age of consent is pretty young according to the bible.

People pick and choose what they like in the Bible and interpret some passages to fit their needs.
They will tell you that the bible says evolution is only a theory because God created man acording to the Old Testament.

Some of the same people will tell you that passages like the one below about "slavery" are not valid because it is from the Old Testament.

Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT: However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way.-----

To me, that sounds like slavery is being condoned.
There are plenty of things the bible says are acceptable that I don't want as part of the laws of today.

This age of consent discussion should have nothing to do with religion or the bible. People need to discuss it and decide. One problem is that everyone matures at a different rate. Some 16 year olds I know have much more sense than some of the 40 year olds.

I'm not trying to split hairs. But I heard from pro-sex educators say safe sex is either abstinence or masturbation. They say using condoms or dental dams is a way of practicing safer sex. Since condoms and dental dams are not 100% effective in preventing STDs due to using them improperly, tearing or slipping off.
....Maybe one should consider taking matters into there on hand, there maintaining safe sex and no passing std,s..

to "right on" You are advocating 1. censorship 2. child abuse 3.outright murder and 4. prohibition. Have you read the the U.S. Constitution? Bill of Rights or even the State of MO Law book?? This is not an Religious State. Everyone has rights to freedom of liberty, religion and speech. I believe this country has serious problems and personally believe a closer walk with God would solve many of them but it is not my right to force my beliefs on anyone, just explain them when I am asked. I will pray for you.

The drinking age should be lowered. If 18 is old enough for an american to be given a machine gun and sent jackbooting across the globe shooting at the browner peoples of the earth, it's old enough for a cold coors light.
There is no reason to raise the consent age. The only way you can impact younger peoples sexual behavior is through education (not ignorance such as abstinence)and people in their mid to late teens will usually be sexually active to some degree... all we can do is give them the tools to prevent pregnancy and STDs.
Educate them to be godly and responsible.

No through the Word of the Living God, not the godless that have caused this problem in the first place. America always beating around the bush. Treating the symptom and not the disease. SIN.

This isn't about whether a girl should be having sex at 17, it is about whether a girl who consents to have sex at 17 is being "raped" (statutorily) or if she has the mental capacity to understand what sex is and consent to said act of sex (or sodomy).

I can see it now. You have to ask a girl for her ID, and make sure it is valid ID, before you start dating or getting serious. I have seen some 16-17 year olds that look older than I am. Consent is consent. Don't let the government or an over protective parent step in and say that they did not know what they were doing.

I think Right on is joking you guys...at least I hope they are joking, otherwise they are a seriously sick person whom I hope is not living nearby.
The facts and research show that teaching abstinence does NOT work...end of story. But I really like how one person on here thought private schools were so much better because they taught abstinence--NEWS FLASH!!!! I went to JC and a LOT of our guys spent a lot of time sleeping with the precious good girls from Helias, get real!! The problem with raising the consent age is that it won't raise the age that kids are actually having sex- we can't really regulate the act now then can we? All this is going to raise is the number of young boys brought up on charges as well as the spirits of vindictive parents who are upset because they really believed their little "private school" girl wasn't giving it up!

You don't live in southern Missouri with these people like I do - that wasn't "sarcasm and irony", they meant every word they wrote. A person needs to watch their neighbors just to make sure you don't get 'accidently' shot in the back.(not exaggerating)

At 13 you should have your mind on other things besides that. You should try sports at school.

I am a middle school teacher and believe me that is exactly what most 13-year old girls have on their minds these days. They are so sex-crazed on hormones and most all of them have done oral by the age of 12 and most give it all by 14.

The A students and goody-ones that you would least expect it are some of the worst ones. They think they have to do all this to be cool. Sadly the boys are way behind them- most of the girls are involved with boys 15-18 years old. Parents seem to be in denial about this, and the administration doesn't want to address any of this or cause a scene.

I think changing the age to 18 is great. BUT at the same time I think they need to make stricter laws for the sex offenders. Like longer time in prison. Not a smack on the hand and a few months I mean a long prison term. We have plenty of things that need changed in this state.
