Instead of worrying about birth control...catholics need to be worried about the nasty perverts who lurk within their church disguised as priest who prey on children. That is what they need to worry about.

This is about the First Amendment, and you thought it was about birth control or a social issue. This is about force by the Federal Government on any religious institution, to purchase something that teach is wrong. A Individual's free will can believe or not, this is not the issue. Either we believe in Our Constitution (and in this case religious protection) or we do not.. Get it now... notoorangeman wrote: <quoted text> They should also take a poll on how many "Catholic" women use birth control and how many "Catholic" women have had abortions. It's so hypocriticle. seems the only way to reach the prez is if he sees he may lose some votes in November. Hopefully all realize any capitulation on his part would be momentary and he will flop it back really fast if the people are stupid enough to give this inept prez another 4 years. If he gets that opening with no other election in sight, he will govern by fiat and regulation, bypass the legislature and judicial branch. He has already shown us what his plans are. So, kick him and his czars, 1% buddies and commies out of office so we can maybe repair this last 4 years of dictatorial decrees.

"This is not about force" It's a mandate, the exemptions the had before have been removed, and non-compliance will result in them being fined out of existence. Sounds like "force". Anyway, Obama's going to capitulate today per reports this morning. He lost his ass on this one.

Since the economic news has been good, the Reich-wing has to revert to their war on women. It ain't gonna work. 58% of all Catholics agree employers should be required to provide their employees with health care plans that cover contraception. That slides down to 52% for Catholic voters, 50% for white Catholics. 61% of religiously unaffiliated Americans say employer plans should cover contraception. 50%of white mainline Protestants want the coverage. However, for evangelical Protestants, that drops to 38%. Women are significantly more likely than men to agree that employers should be required to provide health care plans that cover contraception (62% vs. 47% respectively). http://mediamatters.org/mobile/research/20120...

No one is being forced to use birth control.....anymore than someone with a insurance package that includes dental is force to get their teeth cleaned. Even Fat Tony Scalia (a Opus Dei fundamentalist Catholic) lines up with 'the law.' One thing I think is crystal clear there is no First Amendment violation by this law, Adam Winkler, a constitutional law professor at UCLA, told TPM.The Supreme Court was very clear in a case called Employment Division v. Smith, written by none other than Antonin Scalia, that religious believers and institutions are not entitled to an exemption from generally applicable laws. The Reagan-appointed conservative justice authored the majority opinion in the 1990 decision Employment Division v. Smith, a critical precedent to the birth control case, decreeing that religious liberty is insufficient grounds for being exempt from laws. The Supreme Court said Oregon may deny unemployment benefits to people who were fired for smoking peyote as part of a religious tradition, seeing as the drug was illegal in the state. To permit this would be to make the professed doctrines of religious belief superior to the law of the land, and in effect to permit every citizen to become a law unto himself, wrote Scalia, an avowed Catholic and social conservative, in an opinion that was cosigned by four other justices.

Hardly comparable. Obama knew he'd lose in court. He's capitualting. Sucks to suck.

This is about the First Amendment and religious protection within our Constitution. This is not about who they hire. Many are willing to be jailed now, including Ave Maria University and a prominent Baptist Minister. You cannot force this "rule" on any religious organization, Catholic or any Other Religions to force them to purchase something they teach is wrong. Have you studied Constitutional Law as this has nothing to do with hiring practices... what is next forcing a Catholic Hospital to perform a abortion in house.. no compromise on religious liberty ever. You mixing this up with trying to mute free speech of organizations. This again is about religious protection under the First Amendment of Our Constitution. Why can't libs understand this. And removing a religious organizations tax exemption now, try it and see how that works for you! Before the courts can set aside the Church's tax exempt status it must first reject either: A) "That the power of taxing it [the bank] by the States may be exercised so as to destroy it, is too obvious to be denied , and That the power to tax involves the power to destroy [is] not to be denied." -- Chief Justice Marshall, McCulloch v. Maryland (1819) B) Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof[.]-- The First Amendment. Note that the B) is the very clause which anti-religion types use to argue for separation of church and state, so setting it aside would set us, the religious majority, free to enforce religion in schools, etc. rider wrote: <quoted text> revoke tax exempt status and let them operate as they want. f**k them all they siphon 75% of charitable donations for political lobbying, demand they pay far share now.

Last I checked, the parishioners do pay taxes and they are citizens too. Employees of religious hospitals and schools pay income and payroll taxes.

How nice of the boy blunder willing to 'accomodate' the Constitution and Bill of Rights with the church-govt-birth control issue. Mr prez, you are not in a position to accomodate our freedoms, your oath of office demands you protect the Constitution you lying marxise worthless excuse for a president. Cannot wait for November.
