Some state workers have gotten raises but how long has it been since a raise has been given to prison workers in this county. I work with children and most of them in this county have parents that work at the prison. They are thankful for their jobs but it has been a long time since they have had a raise. Some of the children's families struggle to make it. The prison is the largest employer in our county. Thank God for it but they need raises too.

Its hard when MCCX is accredited through the ACA which only 13 states are accredited with ACA. Its the highest achievement. And we are the lowest paid ACA accredited state! We get nasty thing thrown on us. We break up fights, Get cursed, Get hurt, Death Threats on a daily basis. For 11.75! BIG TIME RAISE

I have worked there. Yes, they do need a pay raise. But the job isn't as extreme as some people make it out to be. Paying officers up to 20 bucks (based on time there) would be alright. More than that, they can go find another job if they wish.

I tied the shoes of a chid that parents work at the prison today. His shoes are always too small. His family struggles to make it. I have 16 in my class and 8 of the sixteen have someone that works at the prison. They all have a hard time. That is just what I have seen this year. Our families depend on the work at the prison and I would just like to see them get better pay. I know what they make because I have family that works there. Only those that are high in rank make or have been there all their lives make very much. They leave their families and go to Tellahoma every year and sometimes don't really have the money to make the trip. The prison is important to the families and thank God for that but I would like to see better pay for these families.

I whole heartedly agree. Working at the prison is not hard physically. Sudden stressful situations can arise. Inmates are hard enough to deal with. Then you have other officers, rank, and so on that may make it worse. While the workers at the prison need at raise. I do feel badly for the people who work hard at a minimum wage pay. Too many people in this county do. As a matter of fact it's so bad that if you work at the prison. You are doing better than most in this county. The economy is so bad right now that I doubt the raise's will happen.

I know most of the people in this county don't make a lot of money if they work here. The prison is our largest employer and you would think people could make more there. It would help this county so much. Prison workers have to be trained to do this job. They are at risk of getting hurt. Sometimes they have to work 16 hours without sleep. When they first go to work there, they have to leave home and go to Tellaoma for 6 weeks. People who work there have a hard time supporting their families.

the workers at the prison do need raises, they do not get paid nearly enough to be putting their lives in danger on a daily basis!! I for one know first hand how bad the pay is and with the insurance rates there is little bring home pay it is just enough to prevent most from getting the assistance their families need. I am a Regional wife and we are struggling to get by worry from day to day what we are going to eat and how we are going to pay our bills and at any time my husband could no longer be with us. And yes they are the lowest paid in the state.

I am a wife of a correctional officer and he has been there for about 2 and a half years and still has not recieved a raise. I am sure officers who have been there for most there lives have no complaints and that's great, but I would think with my husband working for the state they would maybe get a raise every year. I think after they have been there for 3 yrs they get some kind of bonus, I am not really sure how it works. But I most certainly agree it is hard on us and we only have one child. If I didn't work also we wouldn't be able to feed our family on just his paycheck alone.

If I'm not mistaking the guards at the prison have a union. I am not familiar with what union it is or anything to do with it, but isn't that what it is for? People that are not taught the basic union principles will never know that. However, if all of TDOCs guards are not members of the same union or any union at all it would be no problem to abolish the whole thing and bring in people that would gladly work for 11.75/hr. Its a big mess, and will always be.

Yes there is a union, however it doesn't work the way most unions work when it comes to pay. When you are dealing with taxpayers money, you just can't say "give us a raise or we will strike". Which is what most unions do. The union can advocate for a pay raise, but it doesn't mean they will get it. You have to remember, this is a local union. If a pay raise goes into affect, it is for the entire state. However, there is a state union, but we won't talk about that joke.

I think if the people at the prison got a raise it would help all of Morgan County so much. The children that parents work there are suffering. I see it everyday in my classroom. We talk about getting new jobs here, which we need, but think how much it would help our county if these workers got a raise.

Yes the guards do need a raise and it will only come if some individual other than a prison employee organizes and contacts the state of Tenn. in refrence to the guard dept. Because the person must be absolutly intrested only in the advantages of the guard dept. The whiole state of Tenn would be responsible for a raise. This raise would probably have to be voted on by our Tenn. goverment in Nashville. You could hire someone to represent the prison guards ,not affiliated with the prison but only the guards.

I am former correctional officer, I worked at Brushy Mtn. while going to school. I think from my experience, and I worked there for 5 years, the officers are overpaid for what they do. And it is not nearly so dangerous as they like for other people to think. Hey, here's an idea how about getting a second job they sure get enough rest while working as an officer . They should have lots of energy for working a second job, they sure don't do anything at the prison. And by the way I worked at Morgan County Regional for a short time as well as Brushy Mtn.and I worked all 3 shifts so I know how hard they all work.

Believe me, no one who works for a state or federal job works as hard as anyone who works in the private world. Boring, but not hard work!!

You just must not have worked very hard. My husband is 56 years old and not the best of health. He has worked there about 10 years and he has to work 16 hour shifts all the time. He goes in at 2 and has to work until 6 in the morning. That is too hard for anyone. When you have to work like that you are putting people lives in danger. There should be another way. They do not have enough help and part of the reason for that is the pay is not good. When you are his age it is hard to find another job. And yes he work's two other part time jobs. He should not have to work but one job. Everyone should make enough on one job to live.
