I don't know what happened her, but the article doesn't say weather she was wearing a helmet or not. My grandaughter takes riding lessons and she is only 4, but everytime she rides she wears a riding helmet. I would think that is a law, since I see so many people ride witha helmet.

"Caitlin had her helmet on. She was an experienced rider for 8 yrs. Those who witnessed the accident said Cait, was dismounting the horse when he spooked and started to canter. She sustained fatal head injuries. Barbara Schaefer

I hope the co-owner has more to say than the comment at the end of this article. She seems callous and unphased by the accident. I am so sorry for this girls family. The whole situation is sooooo very sad.

I know Bev and rode at this farm in the past. She cared about all of her students like they were her own kids and I can let you know that she is not "unphased" by the accident. After a tragedy like this, what person would want to sit down with a news crew and explain things when the story will just go and get twisted anyway? Im sorry, but this comment is completely false and you really know nothing about these people so if I were you id keep my naive comments to myself.

I am the owner of Heavens Gate Farm and your information is not correct. The horse did not bolt. He took two steps to the side as Caitlin was dismounting. And she did not land on her head, she fell to her side. Pleas do not quote wrong information. You make family and people who loved Caitlin very upset. Caitlin was a very good equestrian and knew how to ride very well. She took lessons with me for 9 years. Again, the horse did not bolt. Thank you. If you have questions please feel free to call me.

Beverly,
Wow, I've tried to post this for a while but couldn't quite get it out on the computer with words that would make sense. I knew Caitlin and talked to her a few times, and I wasn't really friends with her because I didn't see her often but if anyone met Caitlin on a bad day, I bet that they would walk away feeling great. I am so so sorry for your loss and others who were as close with her. The people who are saying things that weren't true shouldn't and that one person who said that you were unphased by Caitlin's pass doesn't make sense. Even though I'm not you, I'm guessing that you weren't ready to talk about it- after all, you knew her for 9 years and her loss was tragic.
Sympathy and love,

You are so very, very, very wrong. Do not speak of that which you do not know. This tragedy has affected everyone, beyond compare. Why is it the media ALWAYS gets it wrong and people are ALWAYS so willing to believe the worst? You should be ashamed!!!!!

I miss Cait so very much and pray for her family every day. I think of her everyday and wonder what she would be doing if she were here now.I wish I could put my arms around her and hug her and tell her how much she is still loved and missed every day! I miss her laughter and smile! It has been two years and there is not a day that goes by that I do not think and speak of herThe pain is so deep and never goes away..I miss you ,Cait!

VERDICT: Against Heavens Gate Farm: NEGLIGENT IN CAUSING CAITLIN'S DEATH. TRAINER SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN CATLIN OFF THE HORSE WHEN SHE BEGAN STRUGGLING AND DID NOT DO SO OR ATTMEPT TO DO SO! Small comfort to her family to hear what we knew all along. Heavy burden to know your negligence helped facilitate the death of a 16 year with her whole life ahead of her. A little action and Caitlin would be here. No longer our guess or gut but the facts.

Casey - I hope you check this. Where did you find the verdict of a lawsuit? Do you know what the monetary value was?
