Missouri sees second tiger attack in as many days

I hope this 16 year old makes a full recovery from undoubtedly the stupidest mistake he/she will ever make in their lifetime.

I am reduced to spluttering incoherence by the report about the other mauling-- that the owner of the facility would deliberately lie, mislead, and cover-up details of the attack, because she was afraid of losing "her" animals?? Her excuse sounds like she cares more about what happens to the animals than about what happens to a person who *volunteered* to help care for them. Yikes!!

These people are doing a wonderful thing by taking care of unwanted animals that people leave on the door step. People get these cats as cubs and think "oh so cute, it's really cool to have a lion or a tiger" after they get a little older and bigger all of the sudden they do not want the responsibility or expense of caring for these cats, therefore the Smiths get them. They take care of these animals at there own expense and get volunteers to help out when they can. The injury to this man was a very unfortunate accident. The Smiths have been harrassed for sometime now and it has become very difficult for them to live their lives without constantly worrying what will be said next that isn't true and harrassed somemore. I am a neighbor of the Smiths and I have animals too, but I have never worried about their cats getting loose and harming them. With all the animal abuse that continues to happen we have these people that just want to give these unwanted animals a place to call home and be cared for. Why don't we just let them.

I believe the caretaker was in shock when this accident occured and yes she may have said something else, but later stated really what happened, does count for something. Have you never been in shock and just didn't know what to say or do? She cares very deeply for what happen to the man who was injured, yes a volunteer who cares enough to help these animals, but she cares as much for her amimals too. The cat was put down and was taken from them by authorities. Sometimes the media doesn't get all the facts. So please don't be so quick to judge them we all make mistakes.

human too....... How dare you imply that the owner lied. Have you ever been in a situation of shock and despair? We missourians are horrified at what happened and will be doing all to make sure this does not happen again.

The reason the Smiths are being harrassed, is PETA and AR related. Their goal as you can see on youtube is to end keeping animals for entertainment ie zoos.

Tell the Smiths to hang in there. My prayers are with them. In the meantime we all need to educate ourselfs on this horrible movement to end ALL pet ownership. They feel animals should be free to roam. Their current thought is to get spay and neuter laws passed all over the country, and make people who wish to keep their animals intact pay a high yearly fee which will discourage people from breeding. We could see an end to breeding purebred dogs in our lifetimes. They are very powerful people because they have a lot of money that they got from Americans by misleading them, and exploiting disgusting photos.

She should not have mislead authorities, I do agree with that. The truth is always best no matter what. Why do you imagine that she felt the need to mislead? Are you well informed of what is happening in our country? here is a movement spearheaded by PETA to end all Zoo's. they harrass zoo officials massively. It is wrong. It is also wrong to harrass american business's like KFC, McDonalds, and many others.
They are trying to tale away our rights to own any animal whatsoever. They take an incident and exploit it. Have you seen the comic book style fliers they passed out to young children when at holiday performances of the nutcracker? They stuffed this filth into the hands of children without parental permission. The Peta people would disappear before the parents realized what their children were handed. have a look for yourself....

I do not know what this is about the smiths but as far as the branson west attack I have news. The boy was an employee.He always was allowed in there cage as were others,me for one,very shortly after starting work there and NO there was no training befor hand. So the reports from the owner Breck and other staff members you see on the news IS a lie when they say the boy had no reason to be in there and he broke protocall. There never was nor has been protocall. If there was then why was another employee bit by the lion on the head.And why did the wolves exscape.Why did one animal have such a bag urinary tract infection it had to have surgery and rebuild his malehood.Why do ALL employees have keys and access to ALL habitats no matter what is in them? Why do the venimouse snake cages get accidentally left with the lock on it but not locked.Why was the new lion brought in during the day during buisness hours while guests were on property and taken off the semi that brought him and taken to his habitat,with guests all over the property?? Is that protocal? Any of those things? Is that looking out for ANYONES safety? No of course not. I loved working there,I loved being with the animals,I loved working outside and I thought I was doing the right thing by helpping care for them. But all I was doing was endagering my life. And I would do it again with proper training, with a proper facility that cared for us,the guest and the animals not just money. I feel the cats should be saved not killed. They need to send all the animals to proper facilities, close the zoo and hold them responsible for the accident, medical bills, after care treatment and whatever else falls in the legal aspect. Do not punish the animals they are punished enough with under sized habitats to say the least and the boy has certainly be punished enough along with his real family. His supposed family at the zoo needs to open there eyes as well and see it would be for the best of the animals and the public to close it down.How many accidents are we going to turn our heads to? Does someone have to die befor action is taken?I sure hope not and by all means I hope it isnt this young boy.I have faith in the investigators and in sherrif hill that they will do the full investigation and see the truth through the owner, breck,and his employees smoke screen and damage control.

LORCON & DONNA ROGERS: The tiger that attacked Jordan was born & raised at Wesa, one of a litter of four. According to reports to the Sheriff most of the animals there were born there under their breeding program and then remained to suffer in these small cages with never enough food or water. Do not pity these owners. This is the second attack on a volunteer and she too was forced to claim it was a pit bull. The owner was attacked and the police report read "tiger attack", yet her husband wanted the volunteers to say it was a pit bull. Standard operating procedures for these master liars. PETA is not against pets but are against inhumane treatment, puppy mills and ownership of dangerous carnivores by people with no money, knowledge or compassion. Who would breEd animals when you have that many (84 in 2004 now 49) on less than TWO ACRES. Why is no one concerned that over 30 animals have "died" and the owner claims they are buried. In the past they admitted to selling live and dead animals into the Endangered Animla Trade. They hid the tiger probably hoping to sell parts.

They are also collecting horses and obviously pit bull dogs. There is no redeeming feature for this facility and hopefully homes will be found for these poor animals. Cubs were born there in 2007 and 2008 but have been hidden from the authorities or sold.
She did not lie to save the animals, only to save themselves. Who will pay this man's doctor bills and give him his leg back. This cage along with many others was a violation of the USDA which they refused to correct and cancelled their license thinking the USDA could not charge them. I have been there and hear the owner say "Maggots in the meat is good for the animals." No amount of money given to them would help the animals. Get real Donna & lorcon!

well truth gets out, I am very very real. I am passionatly against PETA. They want to end all animal ownership period!! Maggots on the food? ewwww thats so gross, however it does add protien. I wouldnt allow my dogs to eat maggots, but in the wild wouldnt they eat naggots on their food? The boy and his family is the hardest for me. I mean of course the zoo's insurance would pay his dr bills. That does not seem a question. and if he is disabled, they certainly should offer him something substancial, and pay his dr bills for the rest of his life.

Zoo's are entertainment, educational entertainment. I breed/show Chinese Crested Dogs
PETA is also against breeding of any kind, and like zoo's dog shows fall under entertainment.
In Virginia there was a dog show. PETA came and let out most of the show dogs, just opened the cages and said be free!!! The dog show was next to a freeway and as you can guess dogs died on that freeway. PETA needs to stay out of Missouri. They are loonies and very dangerous.
We like having a Zoo here, Maybe we need to change some policies very quickly so no one else gets hurt, but I hope we do not close down our Zoo.
Ingrid has also stated that even if a cure for aids could be found they would be against animal testing. Since when are animals more important that human beings??????? YOU need to get real sweetie.

Dpnna: Do you actually think that Wesa has insurance? They left the injured man to clean up the evidence, hauled the tiger to her daughter's house, then called for help for the young man. These people DO NOT RESCUE ANIMALS, THEY ARE JUST BREEDERS. When they were bringing all the money why didn't they put tops on the cages instead of breeding animals and getting more breeding stock from their friends? Why did they sell dead and live animals into the Endangered Animal Trade? Why were two tigers in the freezer in the 2002 "Riverfront Times"s article. As I said before this could have been stopped if someone would have listed to the former volunteers, veterinarians, board members and yes, PETA.
