Tyngsboro bulldozed their center, abandoned their town hall, abandoned their school, their library, and the only commercial buildings on both sides of the river. And now you want to demolish the bridge, which is the only sense of community the poor town has?

...and the contract went to the lowest bidder (and the public gets the shaft). Make the company post a performance bond that calls for NO cost overruns and finishing the project on the target date. Remember taxpayers, the company reviewed the work specs and agreed to the price and the finish date. HOLD 'EM TO IT.

Isn't it the same contractor that did such a horrible job on the School St bridge?....
used inferior materials and had to go back and fix everything when they got caught.
How do these companies keep getting contracts?

I agree, it's the only identity the town has and it's a good one.

I quite like the school street bride, and I think the delays on that bridge was because of the University Ave bridge needing emergency repairs. I'm looking forward to a nice Tyngsboro Bridge.

I like the School St Bridge now also, but the contractor did get caught using inferior building materials and had to go back and fix his workmanship. University Ave was a whole different can of worms....not related at all.

Do you think while their at it they can paint the General Store i'm sure the town can afford paint, or knock it down :)

We all have to travel that bridge every day and pass by that area with blinders on.

What took Colleen Garry to get it going it has been years since the temp. bridge has been in place. The work should have started much sooner.

That is a beautiful example of bridge construction. To replace it with a soulless concrete bridge would be a shame!

I'm very glad to see the work beginning on the bridge! I would hope the temp is torn down afterward, maybe see about adding an emergency lane added to the back-side of the original bridge for emergency vehicles only but integrate it into the original.
I was hoping to see the old early childhood center turned into a community center which could rent space for private and business events and maybe also use the gym area for movies some nights, and other arts other nights, bring in a pizza place to rent a space there to provide concessions etc, and bring some jobs for local adults and teens, etc as well as income to the town for the event space rentals
I had mentioned this idea to one of the planning board members at the schools last moving on ceremony which my daughter was part of
A stage could have been build for outdoor concerts too and another part used to rent for private and business outtings

LHS mom, when you say "University Ave was a whole different can of worms....not related at all." While I agree, I do believe the University Ave bridge requiring emergency repairs caused work on the School Street bridge to stop, and that was a major reason for why it took so long. Now that you talk about the inferior materials, I think I do remember something about that, and that must have caused farther delays. Hopefully they learned there lesson, and the Tyngsboro bridge meets the needs of the area.

I'm sentimental too but! they should build a new cement bridge like in Nashua but with 2 lanes in both directions, get rid of the traffic problem.

Glad to see work being done and the handling of the lead paint. Do wish they considered a wider bridge with all that was spent to repair this one. guess we just have to live with it as all we did was pay for it.

For those of you who don't go over the bridge every day, the traffic is a nightmare. The wait times are ridiculous just to get on the temporary bridge. To get rid of that so that we can have another 2 lane bridge is not going to solve any problems. Build another bridge, or like another respondent mentioned, build some lanes on the back side of the bridge. Two lanes in each direction would be nice. Had I known about those issues, i never would have bought on the east side of Tyngsboro.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Libra

You're full of empathy and affection today, so it would be a shame not to spread it around. It's a marvellous day for a low-key get-together with some of the people you haven't seen during the past few days, because you'll enjoy having a good chat about what's been happening. Once your social duties are out of the way you'll love curling up on the sofa with a good book or a favourite film.
