I usually read some articles in the Eagle Democrat every week. I have to say though this website has more information as far as local news for Warren then the Eagle Democrat. I wonder why that is??

I read the Eagle Democrat when we visit my mother-in-law, which is a couple of times per year. I really enjoy the articles written about Warren's history.

When I lived in St. Louis, I received the paper by mail. It took about 2 weeks to get to me. If I called in and reported I had not received it, they mailed the missed copies to me, I got it in two days. I would pay for the envelopes to get it in two days...can that be?

I grew up in Warren. Bob Newton is a fixture of Bradley County and a character indeed. I left 20 years ago but I still have a love for the land of Tall Pines and Pink Tomatoes. Perhaps if we were to find that pine timber byproducts or dead tomato vines generated enough BTU's to serve as an alternative energy source I might move from Dallas back to my home. In the meantime, I will keep up with the current events in the area by reading the old copies of "The Eagle" on my Stepmother's den table whenever possible.

I would be remiss if i did not include this: every time I go home I am depressed. The frontage of the High School on HWY 15 (it will never be HWY 63 to me nor will HWY 278 ever be HWY 4) is in dire need of a major landscape manicure. The prominence and economic buzz of activity once generated by Potlatch before the 30 somethings on Wall Street took over is gone.

Some of you probably have never seen 200 plus people cruising the strip in Warren on a Friday night but I remember it well.

I remember Ann's Restaurant, Wayne's Sporting Goods, The Chat-N-Chew, Blankinship Ford, Hargis Brothers Chrysler/GMC, The Corral, Aubert Reynold's Grocery, The Pain Pot, Kroger's, Ashcraft's Hardware, OTASCO, West Brothers, Ederington's Department Store, Carl's One Stop, Barber Shop, Hank Binns' Bakery, Hankins Hardware,
Dr. Wynne's Office, Barrett-Pirtle Pharmacy the smell of pine trees in the air and the taste of a pink tomato.

It is truly ashamed how small town America has been forsaken by Wall Street with the help of a compliant self-serving congress. The people who brought Warren to it's prominence were a part of the greatest generation---they gave all selflessly that we might be free of Nazi tyranny---Bill Hargis, Sykes Harris, Fred Berry, Dr. Stacey Toole, Floyd Richardson and many, many more.

WOW Andy Gibbs what a blast from the past. Good Job recalling the small town I grew up in back in the day. I have not been back in many years but have many fond memories of the place. I am sorry to here that the school needs some tender loving care and much of downtown is gone. I was just thinking back and looking for old photos from the paper. Amazing how they did such a good job of recording the live in our small town. I was looking at some old newspaper clipping and remembering more. Hope you are well.

My grandfather was from Warren and my father was raised there. I've only been there a couple of times. I still have some of my Dad's "memorabilia" from Warren. For example an ashtray (when when smoking was still popular enough that such things were an advertising gift) from Weiss' Jewelers, 104 S. Main St. It has a 3 digit phone #- ust've been a while back, eh? Is there still a Weiss'Jeweler's?
