Bet a neighbor trying to sell their house is REALLY HAPPY about this decision!!!

Just a Judge being a bully! There are lots of other ways to remind a person without harming their neighbors...maybe community service in the E.R. or morgue????

Judge Chidester is an Idiot!

Now that is innovative thinking ... We need more judges who think outside the box. If this has been done before I have never heard about it... Personally, when it comes to DUI cases I think it should be 'one and you're done." Far too many people who drink and drive are habitual offenders who never get caught unless they are in an accident or kill someone. If you want so bad to kill yourself, get a gun, don't use your car to do it and take out innocent bystanders too.

nice of the judge to make the whole neighborhood look like crap to punish this lady. If she lives in a place is a HOA, you can bet she'll be charged for breaking rules for having a trashed car in her driveway.

I agree 100%. There are a few scary things in this article... the drunk driver is only one of them.

This judge not only punished the defendant's neighbors for the actions of the defendant, but he also made up a punishment for her crime. Legislating from the bench is something that needs to be stopped immediately. That's what legislators and the legislative process is for. Judges have only one job and that is to interpret and apply existing laws to the case at hand.

And what's with judges being able to order you to take a drug? The government has no right to force you to ingest anything.

Yes, this woman should be punished severely. It was her third time and she had to be nearly unconscious at over .3... but let's stick to punishing those who actually commit the crime and leave her neighbors out of it.

This is a great idea, but I'd go further and put a sign on the car, so everyone driving by knew exactly why it was there.

She's to have that car in front yard for 3 years of probation? That Judge should have to live right next door to that mess he's ordered her to have in the yard. He's sure gonna drag the neighbors property values down. All because of another drunk..

No kidding. I think she should have to park the car in her garage. That way her garage space is taken up by her heap of junk and she'll have to park any drive-able cars cars outside. I think that would be a better reminder every 5 degree temp mornings and 95 degree afternoons why her car is parked outside.

Nope. No visible junkers/wrecks in my neighborhood. Of course, I don't live in a trailer park like you.

How do you like being made the subject of a trivial and very unlikely supposition? Well, as you said, get over it!

I agree with the bulk of you the judge is an di**, he is hurting the intire neighbor hood by doing this plus i like the way these people just make things up as they or most likely someone else thinks them up, probably over a bunch of beers!!
I see nothing wrong with making her pay for what she did but i thought that was why she was going to jail?? If she had done this in another state she wouldn't even go to jail well maybe over night.

You people are amazing. None of you know all the facts. Judge Chidester wanted to do something unusual in this case to drive home the point of how serious this woman’s actions were. She has had three prior convictions, clearly nothing was working so far has it? Judge Chidester weighed several options for this woman. Once he was assured that she did not live in close proximity to other homes, he decided this would appropriate. And frankly, from the pictures I saw of her home, the car will fit right in! Putting it in her garage is a stupid idea, "out of sight-out of mind". Part of this sentence is that she feel the embarrassment of all her friends and family walking past it when they come over. I think it was a great idea once you have all the facts. Of course the judge wouldn't plunk down this car in the middle of a neighborhood, good grief people. These comment boards sometimes have a mob mentality. Just maybe this will be the jolt that keeps this woman from doing this a FORTH time and potentially endangering someone close to some of you.

That is unfair to me and all the other neighbors to have a JUDGE order the EYESORE in her yard. Across Indiana, city workers struggle to get JUNK CARS out of yards, make the city look better, and here is a JUDGE ordering TRASH into the yard.

I understand that he is trying to force a visual reminder for Pochron, but why make us neighbors suffer for 3 years?

Heck, ball-n-chain the hood or rim to her ankle, but don't clutter up my neighborhood for VISUAL reminder.

Gee....what dumb idea will he think up next? How about putting the wrecked vehicle in her HOUSE?

Sounds like this Judge needs NOT to be slated ....nor elected again in Valporaiso.

I can see it now.... Valpo man convicted of TAX evasion, now must have a CPA firm operating on their front lawn for 3 years. This will serve as a reminder to always pay your taxes!

..or... Local Valpo man convicted of shoplifting, must keep grocery carts on his front lawn for 3 years as a reminder to go through the check out at the local store and pay for all items.

....a Local Valpo man must open a gun range on his front lawn and operate it for three years for illegally possession of firearms.

Judge must resign for remedial training.

The jolt this woman and many others need is some
real jail time. Until that happens with reliability
these folks will keep driving.

At least put the car in the garage. Her neighbors didn't drive drunk. They shouldn't have to see the pile of junk in their neighborhood.
The Judge obviously isn't a neighbor of hers.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Libra

Don't try to do too much at once today or you'll disappear up you know what! You're all fingers and thumbs, accident-prone and things start breaking. It won't help if you're trying to concentrate at work and a certain chatterbox doesn't know when to shut up. Ask them to be quiet but try not to sound shrewish.
