117K huh? love my mom as much as the next guy, but there is a lot of people out there working 100 hour weeks for a lot less

This survey is absolutely rediculous. You can't take something like picking up the kids after school. Maybe a 15 to 30 minute task and turn it into a job. Hey I'll pick up the kids and do the laundry for $100,000 a year.

13.5 hours per day. Oh really? I think they are lumping their own life-sustaining activities and calling it Mom-related work. Put another way: if they didn't have a husband and kids, they'd still be cooking & cleaning, etc. for themselves. That shouldn't count. We all do that.
And the biggest factor in that $117K salary is CEO. Huh? CEO because they manage a couple of kids? How about McDonalds Mgr instead?? You'd see that salary drop about $80K.

but for $117K she had better be a really nice MILF.

I respect all that Moms do, but this survey is baloney.

If someone would support me, I would happily give up my six figure income to be alble to raise my kids, spend time with them, educate them, raise them in a complex world.

This survey is more subtle whining.

These articles appear around Mothers' Day every year and they make absolutely no sense at all. What is this "work" that they are doing. Nannies or housekeepers don't make that much money, why would a stay-at-home-mom who shares parenting duties with her husband make far more than U.S. median salary? The fact is that few families can afford to live in this country on the median US income of $21,587. If you can afford not to work, great. Don't expect a medal.

how about the working dad's who make ACTUAL money and still come home and do work around the house (mow the grass, yard work, getting things off of the top shelf, lifting heavy things, keeping the couch from flying up and hitting the ceiling) all the things that the stay at home would have to pay to get done.

Every year when this survey comes out I roll my eyes. It'd be nice if I (a single individual with no kids thank God) got paid to
a. shop for my groceries
b. cook my dinner
b. clean my house
c. run my errands
d. do my laundry
e.'manage' my house etc. etc.

Oh wait, that's right, we ALL have to do those things anyway.

I hate these surveys. As a working mom I do all of the tasks a stay at home mom does, plus I work. I don't get why so many stay-at-home moms complain about working so hard. If I stayed home, I'd have plenty more leisure time. My daily work would be completed in three, four hours tops rather than the 12 it's completed in now. My sister-in-law, a stay-at-home mom spends a lot of time at the gym and not much time cleaning her house. Her husband continues to do his share. These surveys make me so mad!

Not the 'mom' I know around the corner from me! she's got 3 different kids from 3 different fathers.....doesn't have a job...and is using her current boyfriend to 'pay her bills'!!!

She defrauded her car insurance company a handful of years ago when her and her (latest husband), couldn't afford their town car.....

It just 'magically' disappeared...and was found gutted and burned south of town.

Then the hurricanes hit...and she mauled her homeowners insurance for more un-needed funds.

And most recently, she claimed to be 'broken into' just before Christmas where all her kids "expensive" toys (x-box, associated games) and "$30k in 'precious jewelry' was stolen....

Uh huh.

I can never tell what is more undisciplined and unsupervised...her dog or her kids (they all roam the neighborhood at random, totally unsupervised).

For some women,'motherhood' is a title that comes from not being able to close their legs! Very few are actually 'moms'.

Well, I actually think that a loving mother and wife is priceless. Still this article is a joke.

Lets see, I go to work to put food on the table and provide shelter, clothing and an education for my kids (we home school, that's why mom is home in the first place. So that our kids can get a first rate education). But wait, I come home, manicure the lawn, help with the dishes, clean the bathrooms and the list goes on and on. So what is my share? After all, when I'm home, that would be considered Over-Time, would'nt it???

Get your a$$ back in the kitchen ... and make me some PIE!

Nonsense. What's the point of paid overtime. That's what the woman is SUPPOSED to do. Survey would have more credence if the emphasis was on a 40 hour week. In other words, time away from work. In addition the working mom who juggles an outside job should not receive squat.

I occasionally peruse your posts, nonetheless, we agree on something. It's time we stop telling women motherhood is a rite of passage. Adopt a d/a/m/n kid. I got a call from a trusted friend about investing(buy/flip) in property in west Orlando. The home owner - a married woman had four kids with one on the way. WTH!! I asked her if didn't believe in birth control. Her reply 'tell somebody'. Somebody in this case was the husband who was standing to my left. The husbands reply: "All I do is breath on her and she becomes pregnant". I'm thinking classic. Found out later she's been married a year to the current husband and four of the kids belong to three different men.

I suspect it would be beneficial if I wrote comments off line. This way, I could proofread among other things.

As a full-time, stay at home father of three (two of whom require medical supervision), I can confirm that this survey is a bunch of bull-@%*&. While it can be a frustrating, thankless job; it is certainly not worth $117k. You can't say that an hour or two of driving around every day is worth the $30k a full time driver would make, then add another $20k or so that a full time house keeper brings in....and so on. If we had to pay for all the services I perform, and I do them all, I would need to make around $50-60 grand before taxes tops. How can you figure in over-time since all parents (working or not) put in extra hours in the evenings and on weekends. If you would pay me $117k for three kids....I say, bring on a few more, pro-rated, of course!

This non-sense is typical Sentinel garbage. Women would be lucky to make $8.00/hr if it were a real job. I'll do it for half of the 114k. Get some real news OS!!!

This survey should have been done and presented differently. I think it would have resonated better with people to show that stay-at-home moms clearly help a family's bottom line. When there is a parent staying at home, a family can potentially save a substantial amount of money on childcare, housekeeping, food expenses, etc.

Obviously, working moms contribute to the bottom line too, but I think a lot of us forget that moms who don't "work for a pay check" provide an economic service to their family that is undervalued by our materialistic society.

Come on ~ all of you ~ a mother at home is PRICELESS!! A mother at home who does it right = 1) a very happy husband who wouldn't want her any other place and 2) children who grow up to be good people, citizens, parents themselves, etc.~ characteristics that are missing in today's society.
