I always check jobs out at the Rat Race Rebellion (ratracerebellion.com ) site. I first heard of them on the Today Show and have found legitimate home-based work with two call centers on their site.

I always do my own research, but they are very good about screening out the scams.(They are on CNN sometimes talking about work at home scams.)

Funny how some of the ads that popped up with this article are for the very scams it says to avoid falling victim to.

The biggest one out there comes via the legitimate job search sites, Monster and CareerBuilder. Most of the jobs listed there are legitimate, however, the individual ones that come through email stating they found your resume online may not be because they sell their lists of users, and scammers also scan for email addresses. One way to avoid the problem is to NOT make your resume searchable.(The large email you may receive of job recommendations from Monster and CB are legitimate--beware of the ones stating they found your resume online.)

These state they are looking for a financial manager helping their clients in countries with no US bank account, or some such line. They say you can make up to $6,000 a month, working part-time--as little as 2 hours. They are essentially the Western Union scam mentioned in the article. You get a worthless check, deposit it into your account, then wire funds back to these "clients". This is called MONEY LAUNDERING, and you can GO TO PRISON for engaging in it! They may even come with a CB or Monster logo on the email.

What to do? Copy the entire header of the email (most will have a GMail email address associated with them), then attach it to the original email and forward it to CB's or Monster's security teams, and the FTC.

It's sad that honest people seem to be becoming the minority in this world, and that the criminals appear to be taking over.

This report has been so helpful. I was going to grab the Google 1.99 offer the other day. I am so glad I didn't. I am retired from disability and have a small ebay account. I make handmade pillows and blankets. Really great because of my disability, (sleep disorder) mentioning one of them. Although it costs a lot for fabric, stuffing, shipping which the customer pays, it can make a little cash for gas or groceries. Ebay fees and paypal fees are also extracted from the profit. Ebay was mentioned in this article so I thought I would add the info about myself and let others know that it is a good place to sell. There are other auction houses also that offer free listings and only take a small percent of the sale after the itme sells. I'm still looking for something that is predictable. Though ebay works, you can't predict what amount you will make on a monthly basis. Especially in these hard economic times. So I am looking for some type of work at home that I can work hard at and count on along with the ebay. The links to some of the online company's that offer jobs for work at home is most helpful. I will check those out for sure. This article was just great and such a wonderful bit of news that will help so many job lookers on their hunt for work. Best....

As I read this, their are three adds on the right side of my screen promising me 63 dollars an hour part time, lose 47 pounds in a month, and ACAI Berry exposed. If you can't control the scams in your own paper, why print a story warning us about it.

The difference between the scam and the legitimate offer is often subtle, very subtle. Even you could be taken in by the deception, and I would feel bad for you. You apparently feel no empathy for this woman. If a friend came to you and needed help, would you tell them..."you screwed up, it's your problem". I doubt you would.

What a horrible thing to say. Those who have been searching for a job for months on end without so much as a phone call are not greedy, they're desparate. How nice for you, apparenty, to not know what that feels like. And the scumgag scammers are exploiting the job climate to prey on these people. The SCAMMERS are the bad guys, not the job seekers.

Still, it's not the time to be foolish. Any place asking for money for job information is a bad sign, and it's a scam. These folks need to do their homework and don't let scumbags make their lives worse or make things more stressful than they already are.

Just use Firefox with the AdBlock and FlashBlock add-ins. That eliminates 99% of the PiPress's annoying ads.

This is a great post that offers information on avoiding scams. I wish I had read this before because I have been a victim of such a scam. But they did everything right from holding large presentations in big cities. Besides we had a chance to call the Better Business Bureau and there was no bad report on this company.

Getting the word out like this is definitely helping. The way to beat these scammers is not to fall for them.

And for those who've complained that this site shows scam ads that should be controlled, let me tell you from first hand experience that is nearly impossible to do. For the ads that appear through Googlge AdSense, a site operator can ban a specified domain from advertising on its site. The problem is that every time the web page is opened, a new set of ads display with new domains. And, if you complain about specific ads to Google it can takes weeks to get a response, if you get one at all.

To me, the advertising platforms, including Google, need to have better filters in place, even if it means they lose a little ad revenue. Plenty of advertisers have been banned from Google for no good reason - these warrant it.

Finding work at home is pretty much like finding any other work - only harder. A big part of the problem is that there are far too many people out there looking to buy into someone's "success system" for a few bucks that will end up giving them a comfortable life. But the only comfortable life that creates is for the outfit selling the "system". The less experience required, the more you need to be suspicious.

People do need to be careful but it's not overly difficult to verify if a home based business vehicle is legitimate or not. Business does require work and products or services to be purchased. If anyone says otherwise run fast and run far. Have a look at our opportunity.......http://www.L ikeSoup.com

Scam is everywhere so we must be very careful whom to deal with, we must double check their work by contacting their previous accomplishments and see if it exist. I have something for you, solutions-oriented firm providing small business outsourcing services with no hustle at all!...

When I decided it was time to work from home after starting a family, I researched a lot of online jobs but as soon as there was mention of money exchanging hands, warning bells always rang.

I started my own Virtual Assistant business (www.bushmillsva.com ) with the help of www.VAnetworking.com who guided me through every step of the process. I did purchase their Virtual Business Startup System but even if you're not in a position to buy this valuable resource, they offer a free networking forum for anyone considering travelling down the VA path. There are thousands of experienced VAs just willing to share their experience and advice.

Good luck

Gillian

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Aquarius

It's so easy to deceive yourself in some way today, especially if you allow wishful thinking to get the upper hand. Don't ignore some unpalatable facts, Aquarius, or the situation will be compounded. Are you trying to keep on the right side of someone you admire or respect? Does this mean presenting a false or highly selective image of yourself? I hope not.
