well, it's picking up over at the Whittier soccer complex, isn't it? Teams have been formed. The BU12 Black should be an exciting team to watch!

So Strikers FC -Whittier will now start using LMSA as a farm system.
Not a bad idea.
If the LMSA BOD has any brains at all they will work with the Strkers to help develop the quality of the rec program. Training, development and such.
They are heads above the little the LMSA coaching a signature staff can offer.

no way. Davis' ego won't let him ask for guidance from the club. and why would the club need to assist LMSA? they just sit back and wait for any athletes who might be interested in improving their game at the club level.

I think if LMSA BOD allowed that the league would be destroyed. Its pretty sad the BOD of LMSA won't allow club players an option to play club in the Fall but its okay for Teams to play State Cup and play club in the Spring.

LMSA BOD serving yours truly.

I have heard of former LMSA coaches who left club truly would come back to help and make the league better.

do you mean that they won't allow rec/sig teams to play club in Fall, when they allow them to play in spring?

they would get crushed in fall, when club kids who also play baseball, other sports return to full time soccer.

Not that I am a Bobby D fan but no one has more experience at club, State Cup level than he does with in our organization. He is constantly looking for ways to improve the coaching skills, organization and comrardery of all those who dare to take the mantle of being called a soccer coach.

I agree Bob coaches, volunteers his time on the board without any kids or anyone. He spends alot of time in helping and has a lot of experience. I dont think LMSA has any great coaches but there are a lot of quality people who help out in the league who coach and referee.

What is Bob's background in soccer? Did he ever play, or just coach?

I do not believe he ever played but when you take his age in to account it would be very improbable that there were any local leagues when Moses was walking the planet (just Kidding) I believe he has coached for 25 years, altough some my not consider that a great coach. Truly experience and overlay the volunteering his time. While other will only coach for a paycheck. Speaks volumes for me.

How about we start here-
Definition of a good coach "a coach that makes a player better", a great coach takes them to another level.

A great coach doesn't just train or educate a player. A great coach will be remembered for a long time as the one who motivated and provided the confidence in the young player that they can excel into the great player. Too many don't see that need at a young age. How many young quit because of the bad experience or burn out that they received from the controling trainer or coach holding grudges? Anyone can pull drills off line or from a class or buy them ice cream or cleats.

I defined my success by the number of kids who returned each successive season. By how many approach me with a smile and a "Hi Coach!" even after 10 years. And by how often I took teams with less skill and quietly coached them to wins against "better" teams with coaches who boasted about how good they were. Miss wanted to play for me. They improved each year and now are successful HS, club or college players. One doesn't have to hold a high level license to be a teaching coach.

Total agree about the happy feeling but is that what we are talking about here. Above stated great is next level, what is the highest level you have coached? Most rec coaches get the hi coach just because they took the time and became friends not because they are talented coaches. Saying a high level - although that doesn't make you a great or even a good coach- it does give you a better understanding of what to do isn't that the same thing about college education.

It's not about the level you're at, or your w/L record. if that's the basis then you're only thinking about your own ego. A great coach understands human behavior, nurtures kids, comes along side them and understands how to motivate and encourage them. Big Dog, Tim and Albert I'm glad you're interested in learning. You're all great volunteers but could use a little more depth in your approach. study the pyramid.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Leo

This is a great day for fixing things that have gone wrong. If there have been ructions in your relationship with a certain person this is when you can sort things out and get them back on track. If an appliance or gadget is going on the blink, this is your cue to either get it mended or chuck it out and replace it. You may also find time to tidy up your immediate surroundings or take all those bottles and papers to your nearest recycling center. How virtuous you'll feel when it's all done!
