Kailua does not want them that is why there is so much conflict. The only people who want them are the small minority that are running illegal businesses and creating havoc in our neighborhoods. And btw, members of Keep It Kailua, Save Oahu's Neighborhoods, Out-door circle, etc. are the neighbors that have to live next to these disrespectful, unscrupulous illegal businesses - have you ever wondered why these residents would get involved when they have NOTHING to gain except the sanctity of their homes. In addition to these groups, the city's own planning commission said NO, every neighborhood board who voted on this issue said NO (including Kailua and Waimanalo), Institute of Human Services said NO because it takes long term rentals out of the market, Local 5 - 11,000 members strong says no. Thousands and thousands of neighbors across the Island say no. We are the Majority and we say NO. The only ones saying yes are the illegal operators and the city council members who received money from this industry to fund their campaigns. |
