1 We see how vacation rentals and illegal B&Bs have ruined our neighborhoods here on Maui, and do not want to contribute to the deterioration of all the charms that attract us to the small towns remaining on Oahu. As a visitor we were not able to sign the petition against permitting B&Bs in residential neighborhoods. It appears that the majority of people who attend the Kailua Town party are visitors like us couldn't sign it either. So, the survey truly does reflect the opinion of those of you who are lucky enough to reside in Kailua. As an impartial out of town observer, I suggest that Chuck Prentiss conclusions are correct. Fred Larson's conclusions are absolutely WRONG. Please don't let residential Kailua Town become another commercially driven, tourist overwhelmed Lahaina Town! |

Mahalo nui respectful visitor!!! You are welcome with open arms! Since we can't seem to keep these pilau vacation rental owners out of our residential neighborhoods, we HAVE to educate the visitors NOT to rent them. Listen up.....If you are coming to Hawaii, DO NOT stay anywhere but a RESORT area. You will be welcome and treated with aloha if you respect our right to live and raise our families here. If you choose to rent in a local area you will be met with hostility. Do your homework and learn where VDA areas are.(Visitor Destination Area) There are PLENTY of them. Help us keep Hawaii a friendly place to visit, we can't do it without your help. "Please respect the locals" Aloha. |

Thank you! I promise if we ever get a chance to visit Maui we will return the aloha and stay in a hotel.Your letter was very inspiring and very welcome.Thank you for understanding our problem. |

with all the roubles of the world the B and B problems seem ludicrous.
It is not ludicrous, it is written in the laws that residents have the right to a peaceful existence. It is our right as human beings to have a place to raise our families, get sleep, etc. that is why the zoning law exists in the first place. There are places for businesses, there are places to live. This B&B and Vacation rentals in residential areas is a major, important problem. Don't underestimate the right for a peaceful existence. And if our local people are loud, dogs barking, etc. at least they belong there and we just work things out between neighbors, like we are supposed to. I bought a home in the proper zoning (residential) I should not have to deal with thousands of visitors coming and going from all over the world because you did not buy in the proper zoning (VDA or commercial). I will take my noisy, local family that I know and that actually live here, any day over your endless stream of transients. |

1 Reads to me that Alice senses (so to speak) that if B&Bs were to thrive in Manoa, the area will qualify for changing the name of her residential area from "Manoa" to "MANURE". The NIMBY hostility she directs toward Kailua reminds me of the queen in the story of Alice In Wonderland. Be frank Alice. If you don't want B&Bs in Manoa, why would you wish them upon Kailua? Are you currently invested in an illegal vacation rental operation there, and are simply attempting to protect your own interests? Smells funny to me. |

1 You sound more like a student... who is doing poorly. Maybe you need to study more. Especially about zoning ordinances and community issues. |

1 Gov. Linda Lingle said in a written response to questions that the state's first plan in 2008 was for the unions to take a graduated pay cut. Those earning a lower salary would take a smaller cut of between 1 and 3 percent, while those in higher brackets would take cuts of between 6 and 8 percent. That was rejected by Dayton Nakanelua, the United Public Workers executive director. Lingle said Nakanelua "first suggested that the state consider furloughs." So furloughs were a UPW suggestion. Ironically the UPW is the only union which has forced arbitration so far. |

It is no suprise to see the results of the B&B Survey. Just put out a survey in your local area, invite members of Keep it Kailua, Save Oahu Neighborhoods, the Outdoor Circle, and the Kailua Neighborhood Board to fill in a survey, and you have the 200 surveys you want with the results you want. Give me ten minutes and I can probably name everyone who filled out the survey!

She/he claims to be a 19 year old foreign student from Canada boarding at Manoa. Likes to post on every issue with stupid comments. He thinks people want to read his nonsense. HHmmm (shim) claims lots of stupid things which some believe is a story tale like Alice in "dumb land" theme. Many believe he is a chinatown tranvestite. |
