There is much focus on HC&S and Wailuku when this is a community wide issue with HUGE implications for anyone living in Wailuku, Waihee, Maalaea, Kahului or Kihei ...anyone using the Central Maui System. This message seems lost and needs to be understood by all. While stream restoration is an admirable goal, under current conditions, it will come at a cost ... people need to understand that cost. Some are trying to understand and work together while others are trying to divide the community ...silent majority ...time to stand up

A USGS report came out last year that found mauka to makai stream flow will allow Iao aquifer to recharge at a rate of least 12 million gallons per day - that's 60% of its capacity. Iao aquifer is Maui's largest drinking water source and recharging it is essential for Maui's future. Diverting all the flow from the streams, which is what Wailuku Water Company and HC&S are doing now, prevents this from happening.

It seems like Moriwake wants to trivialize the HC&S importance to the hundreds of employees and the thousands on Maui who will be affected if HC&S shuts down.

How so very far we've come from the plantation days - now, the unions are fronting for the plantation.

Hopefully, HC&S workers can keep their jobs (or find better jobs than plantation jobs). But, the workers need to start questioning their own bosses and not just act as their pawns. HC&S is constantly eliminating union jobs, and its parent A&B is planning to develop 1000s of acres of plantation land and take away 1,000,000s of gallons water from HC&S to sell to the public.

If/when HC&S goes down, it'll be because A&B's capitalist/land development bottom-line trumps any commitment to agriculture or its workers.

Those of you from Maui wanted reckless development--at any cost--and believed this would bring you jobs, tourism, and a more prosperous life. Now, you have to pay for ignorant decisions and import water from Japan, Europe, and Australia--in very expensive little eensie-beensie plastic bottles (mostly from recycled sewage waters). So, now, drink your doo-doo water and don't bother the rest of us! On Oahu, we're backstroking through The Mufster's lack of Sewage Infrastructure and Lingle's Tax Credits to crooked Mainland Banks and their minions--the developers, who ruined Waikiki and Oahu! I hope Uncle Nick is satisfied with the profits he hurried in to various Zionist Offshore bank accounts!

Streams are important to all of us for a range of reasons and we must look at what is real fact vs feelings. Is the diversion today,as it has been for more than 100 years, of no benefit to the whole of Maui? What would be the real benefit, if we assume the USGS is right,to having 12 mgd recharge the Iao aquifer or is that water of more benefit to the Central Maui communities health and welfare in these trying times! I hear the potential users wanting to make similar diversions. Is this for the few or the many? Thank you unions for joining the silent majority. The time has come to silence the few (Moriwake and his like) who represent they speak for all of us. To the Commission, be careful!!! Remember the waters are in trust for all,not the few. You are now the Konohiki!

To control water is to control LIFE and what these corporations are doing affects EVERYONE.. not just Hawaiians so while they are trying to divert water from Hawaiians non-Hawaiians take note:

Continued development of Maui is not the answer to financial problems. Instead of elected officials using exorbitant amounts of tax dollars to fly around the globe promoting tourism for corporations that should fund their own promotions use the money to pay our teachers, firefighters and police what they are worth. Bail out the local talent not Wall Street.
