At least Markus Owens admits what the government denies, that it's where you live and who you are that determines your quality and amount of sevices. Next time I see a refridgerator dumped on the road on the westside, or trash piled up for a long time in front of a home, I'll know we're just not "breadbasket" enough to warrant good service, we just get to pay for more important people to get it.

Is the City or State planning on changing the handicap tags to possibly a different color and/or shape? Or how about giving them a sticker to put on the car so that a driver needs both. This would prevent theft and abuse (i.e., borrowing the tag).

Unfortunately, the unscheduled pickups just reinforce the irresponsible behavior of the few lazy people who are "too special" to follow the rules like the rest of us. I am waiting for the day when the various city/state departments stop pointing the finger at each other to handle enforcement of the rules and start fining the litterers.

Mahalo to the resident on Fern Street who is storing his/her refrigerator until the bulk pick-up date. Illegal garbage dumping continues to be a problem in the Moiliili-McCully area. This issue continues to be discussed on the neighborhood social networking site www.MoiliiliMatters.com Thankfully, Kamehameha Schools is helping the effort to stop illegal garbage dumping in the area. Please visit www.MoiliiliMatters.com for more details.

Well, now you know why. You're not as "breadbasket" as the other areas.

Stumpy, youʻre identifying only one part of the problem while ignoring another important part of the problem. That other part is the few area residents not following the guidelines for scheduled bulk pick-up. Itʻs not a continuing problem because the city government pays more attention to Waikiki. Itʻs a continuing problem because people continue to dump garbage illegally.

Kudos to MoiliiliMatters.com and Kamehameha Schools for taking an active role on this issue.

Can't ignore it. I'm looking out the window at a mountain of bulk trash that's been setting there for about a month. Huge speakers, an entertainment center, a few beds, an old weight bench, lots of junk. Wish we could be considered part of the breadbasket for at least a little while, but all's we do is work and pay taxes, not like we're tourists.

You're ignoring one part if you're talking about the other part. We can blame government all we want, but the problem is still us. If you're not dumping the trash yourself, are you doing anything to stop it?

Just what would you suggest I do? Stay home 24-7 to guard the sidewalk? Sit up all night and write down license numbers? Kill the mutts that pile their junk up on the sidewalk? Maybe leap from a tree onto the back of the pickup, carrying a flaming torch and screaming, "I love Obama" at the top of my lungs? I'm open to suggestions, just don't say, "Turn them in to the police." They don't care.

You asked for suggestions. Here you go.
1. Stay home 24-7 to guard the sidewalk?-Umm, aren't you unemployed? You're home anyway. Or you can face your security cameras in that direction.

2. Sit up all night and write down license numbers? Obviously you wont be up all night because half the time you're drunk.

3. Kill the mutts that pile their junk up on the sidewalk? I wouldn't put it pass you but please don't hurt the mutts.

4. Maybe leap from a tree onto the back of the pickup, carrying a flaming torch and screaming, "I love Obama" at the top of my lungs? No, just jump in front of the pickup. That would probably solve all of our problems.

Sounds like you are definitely not short on ideas, but you may be running a little low on intelligence. If you really cannot think of any viable solutions, maybe you should jump in front of a truck.

For starters, you can begin by talking with your neighbors who are actively working to address this issue.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Taurus

If your goals are fairly modest in the short term, they are achievable and you're likely to get some praise for achievements along the way. If you aim too high too quickly, others might not take you seriously or think you're being uppity and you could come unstuck. It's all a question of attitude and approach. There are contradictory influences over the next ten days but there could also be good luck coming your way.
